It also makes it clear that the Govt's remaining stake will be 14% i.e. 14% of the share capital. The 'up to' terminology was used last time when we had up to 10% share and yet we actually got 10%.
I rest my case - the 1% referred to in the speech simply means 1% from the remaining 15% not 1% of it

It I% of the total shares (1 billion) which equates to 100million shares.
divide 100m by approx. 130,000 staff and this gives approx. 77 shares each.
Note it is 1% of the original total. 60% was sold in 0ct 2013 and staff got 10%. leaving 30%
Gov sold 15% yesterday leaving 15%.
1% being given to staff leaving 14% of original 100%. If it was 1% of 15% left that would only be 0.15%. which is wrong

To be pedantic it says "from" rather than "of" - so it could be read either way 1% of the total shares all coming from the 15%, or 1% of the 15% - my bet remains the same.mr hil. wrote:Quote From here
So only 1.5 million shares for usThe Government sees no policy reason to keep its remaining stake in Royal Mail. It also intends to gift up to 1% of the shares in Royal Mail to UK employees, subject to restrictions on sale, from the Government's remaining holding.

My head is hurting with your calculations but hopefully the 70 shares are coming our way without too many conditions attached.plymouth3 wrote:It I% of the total shares (1 billion) which equates to 100million shares.

What is 1% of NOTHING because that's what these shares will be worth in a few years time after more market de-regulation with competitors delivering in all major towns and cities.
