Responding to the announcement this morning that Ofcom are to launch a review of postal market regulation, CWU general secretary, Dave Ward said:
"Royal Mail is efficient and postal workers are some of the most productive in the UK. Ofcom has overstepped its remit in criticising terms and conditions and a regulator should not be using efficiency to drive down employment standards which is what it is doing with its announcement today.
"With a privatised Royal Mail we need stronger protections for the universal service. The withdrawal of Whistl and the collapse of Citylink shows the difficulty of operating in the postal market - Ofcom should be safeguarding daily deliveries, not trying to tie up Royal Mail in regulation."
