The stamp was issued in March to mark the 50thanniversary of Royal Mail’s Special Stamp programme.

The Peace Bridge featured on a series of special stamps to celebrate Britain's bridge building heritage.

Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Councillor Thomas Kerrigan is pictured attaching a plaque of the stamp the post box on Shipquay Street.

He said he was “delighted” the city had been included in the Special Stamp scheme and that an image of the iconic peace bridge, which symbolises everything that is positive about the city, was being used to showcase and promote the area.

Michael McKernan, Royal Mail Delivery Office Manager said Britain’s towns and cities have influenced stamp designs over the past 50 years.

He added: “We are proud that one of our postboxes in features a stamp of the iconic Peace Bridge. We hope that all our customers and visitors enjoy this special stamp plaque and might even take a photo as a memento.”

It is hoped the plaque will attract attention and admiration from locals and tourists alike.

Other stamps on postboxes include Winston Churchill, Bagpuss, Dylan Thomas, Robert Burns, the Giant’s Causeway, York Minster and Sherlock Holmes.
