Have just started a few weeks ago, been told i have a few weeks holiday to take but to be honest i'd prefer the money more than the time off, is it possible to work a week but also claim holiday pay for that same week and get in effect double wages?

You could always do something else that week; pop down the car boot on the Sunday at the start of your leave week then spend the rest of the week eBaying it all, for example. Probably won't match a RM wage but I've found there's always ways to earn a few quid if you've spare time, can be good fun too.
