Always fancied having a go at a rural in the Scottish highlands with about 10 delivery points all spread out. :Very Happy
Yeah I wish. Scottish highland rural duty holder here. 270 calls. 70 miles. 5hrs 30 mins if im lucky. 6hrs if its most calls. Only thing that saves me is talk sport and after 3 years on this duty only caught once pissing in the bushes!!
Lovely 2.5 hours of that workload taken up by the van. Van shares are taking the same loads and doing 4 hours + walking

Clearly the OPG shown on the midweek BBC News regarding profits is on a bad duty...

Because why, while being filmed, would he be filtering mail for the next address while walking and carrying the pouch on his shoulder? :arrrghhh

I'd love to know if the CWU is chasing up why an OPG breaking H&S guidelines is being allowed to be shown on tv?

If his walk was achieveable after the indoor workload, he should have been filtering mail for the next address while stationary and using the HCT/LWT (he was not delivering to a block of flats).

One where you either don't have a P&L partner, or have one that you work well with. It doesn't matter how 'good' a duty is, if you are working with a stinking tosspot who can't do the job for toffee it's not actually going to be good!

I'm doing a nice round in a rural market town with a trolley. While it gets the most mail and packets in the office, I do it in 2 halves so manage to go back to the office for a little break before filling the trolley up and doing the second half of the town. There's hardly any traffic either and the people are quite posh so don't come across any undesirables.

If flats then all boxes outside or on lower ground. Looks bad on the frame but you can clear 100 delivery points in 10-15 mins on some walks and hardly move + few packets. Working with someone on the same wavelength & speed is pretty important - makes a big difference. Only a few re-directions. Minimal multi-occupancy. Older people living usually means less packets and mail. Short driveways / no front gardens. A more up market area helps with general mental state but then that usually means longer driveways. Finishing by 130p. Flat ground. Close'ish to office.

One like that in our office, about a 90 mile round trip. It's ok if you like driving.People do appreciate you more out on the rural, one customer used to give a 200 quid tip at Xmas, she's gone now though.

Almost any rural round....i'd rather drive for a large portion of my round than do relentless walking.

Has any postie who resents driving so much ( in a nice quiet rural area) ever done a long trolley round for any length of time?

At our office at least one of the rurals wastes up to an hour, maybe even more sitting in his van every day, getting back at the same time or later than the trolley rounds who've been out walking constantly for up to 6 hours.

If he does then the bosses/planners will know about it. As faras I know all vans have trackers fitted now, and they can do both live and historical tracings.

The best 'walks' in our office are the business ones

They get their mail early so they can get out the office first. There are far fewer calls as most of the mail is bulk.

Also, on Saturdays, half of their mail in the frame gets left behind till Monday.....
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Any duty you can complete within your time on a relatively average-to-busy day without breaking sweat.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Am I reading this correct?... That you're actually moaning about having a Scottish Highlands rural duty?

I was only thinking the other day that if I could get a duty such as what you've got I'd gladly do the job for National Minimum Wage, my health and job satisfaction is more important to me than money.

Having your own duty 15 year service and still getting shafted on a daily basics it's an absolute joke...
