Change of hours
Hi.have been with Royal Mail now for3 years now on a 23 hour contract, thing is I normally work between 35 - 40 hours a week! Thing is I swear I read somewhere that if you do more than your contracted hours every week for a 2year period that they have make up yours to suit the hours you work? We've had our revision & it's no good asking the dom as he don't care & our union rep has quit! Can anyone on here help me please

Have a look at the Agenda For Growth agreement, 2.7.7.

Re: Change of hours
Probably one of the most misread and misunderstood paragraphs in any agreement.Kobi72 wrote: Thing is I swear I read somewhere that if you do more than your contracted hours every week for a 2 year period that they have make up yours to suit the hours you work?
You would have to be doing the overtime on your own duty.
So if you were on a 29 hour contract and were asked to come in 2 hours early to prep that duty as there were insufficient indoor hours in the DO to get it prepped for you, you might have a case for increasing your hours. But then again how would that work if you didn't have the seniority?
If you were on a 32 hour contract and worked your day off every week for 7 hours for 2 years, it wouldn't entitle you to anything because your "full time hours" are based on a 6 day week. Some offices are deliberately understaffed to ensure the overtime is there.
Covering vacancies/sick/maternity/paternity on overtime effectively means nothing.
There would need to be a clear shortage of indoor hours in your DO throughout the year.
So while in theory there is scope to increase you hours, in realty the paragraph as quoted above is meaningless drivel.
Never let the hand you hold, hold you down.

Re: Change of hours
It's not drivel if all the criteria is met,but you would need a clued up rep in attendance.
There should be regular reviews every 6 months anyway to keep an eye on things, once again you would need a clued up...
See AFG/2010 agreements in downloads forum.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

For all the criteria to be met you would either have had to have had a massive increase in traffic post revision or the revision was a cock up.POSTMAN wrote:It's not drivel if all the criteria is met,but you would need a clued up rep in attendance.
Massive increase in traffic - unlikely.
And if the rep was clued up, why would the revision have been such a cock up?
RM's negotiators must have been killing themselves laughing when that paragraph went in.
What were our negotiators doing?

Yes it's a mixed bag,but it has been done.
So personally I won't completely dismiss it,and will keep pushing it.

Royal Mail/CWU NATIONAL JOINT STATEMENT - GROWTH, EFFICIENCY AND INCENTIVESmotherhubbard wrote:Probably one of the most misread and misunderstood paragraphs in any agreement.Kobi72 wrote: Thing is I swear I read somewhere that if you do more than your contracted hours every week for a 2 year period that they have make up yours to suit the hours you work?

• The objectives of the local review are as follows:
- To address increases or decreases in workload. In delivery the review of workload will also take account of changes in delivery points, delivery to neighbour and the overall mix of traffic, including parcels and door to door.
- To address variability in workload.
- To maintain and where possible increase efficiency and quality of service.
- To enforce the right of employees to a fair and manageable daily workload, remembering there is a limit to what employees can reasonably be expected to do.
- To maintain reasonable employee earning opportunities.
- To reduce agency and casual staff.
- To fully apply the terms of the national Job Security Agreement in relation to the employment of fixed term contract staff and the opportunity to increase part time contractual hours to reflect the hours actually worked and planned
The final paragraph of objectives states "opportunity to increase part time hours ...." . I do not see where it specifies your overtime would have to be on your own duty. At our DC the hours were reduced to 30 for over 20 full time rolling/temporary staff after 2 years in "exchange" for permanent contracts. The following weeks most were working same "lost" hours as overtime !! . Would there be the opportunity to increase their hours or, as you say, is it the case of "deliberate understaffing" & reduction of hours in contradiction of the statement.
