Welcome day?

Post by Supermac0151 »

Hi all, well after around a 10 week process i have finally received my formal offer and been given a starting date for just two weeks time :Very Happy

I have been requested to go to a welcome day and wandered if anybody knows what it entails? its the day prior to my actual employment. Sounds materialistic but do you get paid for welcome day or does it just start from the actual day of work at my delivery office??

My other question is, Uniform! I know theres a process to request it but i hoped if theres a way in meantime to get it on order by maybe contacting my line manager? I am on a 3 months fixed term contract but was told so long as i perform properly and do as i should then i will be kept on so im not entirely sure of how it works? I have sent emails to HR and the address i have for my line manager but no reply as yet so im just seeing if anybody on here has any information theyd kindly share in the meantime?

Thankyou very much.

The induction day is a paid working day. Its basically a brief about the firm and its union, working practices and H&S.

Uniform. You should get an order form and be able to apply for bits straight away, however apart from a high vis jacket nothing will probably turn up for around 6 weeks, they do this because most of the quitters usually give up before 6 weeks.

Also check out this thread http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =1&t=27513" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; currently 15 pages but it has some really good advice in it.

It used to be that people on 3 month contracts didn't get uniform until they got a 2nd contract.

thanks GT, I know that they say 3 months onwards but i was told that so long as i do the job properly (by the manager) then you get kept on so my logical thinking says theres no harm in issuing uniform to begin with. Surely postmen have to look like they are actually part of the company by having the right ppe/uniform??

Nope, you will see all sorts, anything from old boys wearing shirt and tie to people dressed as tramps :Very Happy
