Councillor disappointed by changes

North Kincardine Councillor Ian Mollison has expressed his disappointment in changes Royal Mail have made to their services in the Kincardineshire area.

Cllr Mollison contacted the Mearns Leader to comment: “I have noticed that a number of post boxes locally are having the time of the last collection changed, in some cases by one hour 15 minutes.

“I also know that the last collection outside the Bank of Scotland in Tullos has been brought forward, and the time in Newtonhill. No doubt something similar is happening in Stonehaven.

“The changeover takes place on 18 May.

“I find this baffling and will be contacting Royal Mail to ask why this is happening.

“A first class stamp costs 63p now, and the majority of these letters will be delivered anywhere across the UK the following day. And so it should be at that price.

“We are paying a considerably higher price than a couple of years ago for a worse service. This cannot be right. No wonder mail volumes are falling if the service is getting poorer.

“Royal Mail had one of the most efficient delivery networks across the UK. Why do they now need a further hour to get the mail to its destination the following day? Deliveries in urban areas used to be between 7am and 9.30am. Now they can be anytime during the working day.”

No doubt this hero of the local community was very outspoken and campaigned against the sell off of the Royal Mail, he would have been very vocal knowing that with all privatisations, prices go UP and service levels go DOWN.

In reality he probably didn't give it a second thought like most people.

He's a Liberal Democrat. I'd like to think he pressed his erstwhile colleague Vince Cable at the time as he railroaded the sell off through. I'd imagine he didn't.
