Reserves question

We do longs and shorts in our office, and in order to try and stop them giving reserves Tuesdays as their day off, I've pointed out to them that every time you have a Tuesday off, you're working 39 hours 45 if you're full time, that is. I've asked how we are to get that time back, ie should we be owed time or should we be able to claim it as o/t? DOM says it can't be claimed as o/t. Is this right, can anyone advise? Cheers

I imagine it's a situation that's handled differently at every office. At ours the reserves have a fixed 7hrs 48 mins day, yet the duty holders are on longs and shorts. Bit bonkers when you've people with differing finish times on the same paired round but doesn't seem to be any other workable way that I can see.

Not if you're a reserve who often gets stiffed with Tuesdays off and don't get rotating days.

In our office reserves also work 7 hour 48 min per day thus equalling 39 hour weeks, but their start times differ from staff on longs and shorts staff ie.
Longs and short staff are on a 8 hour 30 W,Th,F the reserve would start 42 mins later than them but finiish a the same tme, also if the longs and shorts staff work 7 hours 30 mins M,Sa the reserves would start 18 mins before them and still finish at the same time as them.
Hope this makes sense.

Not if you're a reserve who often gets stiffed with Tuesdays off and don't get rotating days.

Exactly. It only evens up over the six weeks if you stick to the rotation. The only thing you can do is to keep a record of the days off you're given and make sure you're paid back any time over, and I think you should be able to claim the money.

Yes, that makes sense. I may put that option to the reserves, not sure they'd be happy with it, tho.

7hrs 48mins in my office too, but starting at the normal duty time.
