I don't even think it's loyalty. I think it's down to posties not wanting 2 days worth of mail the next day, so they plod on and go over. Management exploit this.

yes this is the issue, many people in our office do overtime daily on their own rounds (extended delivery) however now we been told to lapse. So everyone leaves lapse and manager has to do it. Now manager says do lapse first because they know thery don't want to leave their own round. Its easy to say man up and leave it but most feel bullied into this,

we have a part timer in our office. her start time is 9.48 but she doesnt want any overtime. just wants to work her hours. but manager tells her she has to come in a 9.30. she gets in, dom is at her frame, hands her a couple bundles of lapsing every day. as much as i try i cannot get through to her.

So I take it she is not getting paid for the 18 mins per day x ? =

The rule is that little line that's at the top of every duty 318 which states "as directed" as long as it's a reasonable request there is not much you can do. So if that means taking the lapsing and doing it first and cutting off on their "own" duty then that is the dom decision to make

Everything that happens inside a DO should be by agreement, that's the basis of the AFG agreement, anything outside of that, unless it's as a result of unforeseen circumstances would be considered a change to working practices without agreement or what's known as executive action, this is specifically against our collective agreements and would take it outside what is considered a reasonable request.
A reasonable request is not a license to do anything they want.

In our office we lapse minimum 2 duties every day, sometimes 3 if they need to loan out a body to another office. We don't get a choice wether to lapse or no but we do get a choice to do the lapsing before or after our duty, sometimes the lapsing takes us by our time but we get told "swings and roundabouts" which a load of crap if I'm honest.
