Whistl suspends post delivery service

Post by jimmynailsalive »

Great news, ignore the 2000 redundancies, the letters still have to be delivered by Royal mail meaning no net job losses in the industry and slows the race to the bottom for pay and conditions. :nana

[img]Postal business Whistl - formerly TNT Post - has suspended its door-to-door delivery service in London, Liverpool and Manchester and is consulting 2,000 workers on redundancy.

The move follows a decision last month by potential investment partner LDC not to fund its expansion plans.

Whistl will continue to provide a service, but will revert back to using the Royal Mail for the "final mile".

Shares in Royal Mail rose 3.3% after the news was announced.[/img]

Great news???

Not for 2,000 workers. I don't see how you can say 'ignore' that. These guys and girls have families and every worker deserves job security. :no no Remember they have been suffering on zero hours contracts aswell. This closedown with no payouts for the staff shows the rest of industry that Zero hours contracts work both during business AND when you want to shut up shop and make putting thousands on the dole at NO expense to you possible. That is NOT good at all.

OK now for the company RM Group yes it is great news yes, but we don't know if another outfit might take up the mantle.

What I'm really thinking is when all the mail comes back to Lon, L'Pool and Manchester posties will they build up more rounds or make them all absorb it?!!!

Just so, and it was inevitable really. Nobody can compete with RM. I think this is a great moment for the union to move forward on RM and point out how successful the existing workforce is and shedding staff and beating them about the head is not the way to go.

Nope, I stand by great news, they are low paid zero hours jobs and the only end game was bringing down our pay and conditions to their level if they got a foothold.

They have spent a fortune getting this up and ruunning and to admit failure is tremendous, not to say another company might not try to take over the operations but fingers crossed they don't. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind and hope all 2000 find another job with steady hours. :thumbup

Will this be the first example of a major zero hours employer dumping all their staff and not having to pat a penny in redundancy

It is disgusting. The Tories will be saying this is GOOD for business and GOOD for the market as it 'self-corrects'. f**k that what about peoples lives here?

The regulator should be sacked following the Whistl debacle.

Ofcom allowed competition on unfair terms to a company with a tinpot business model. Now they expect RM to pick up the DSA mail and sort the mess they created in the first place! On top of that 2,000 odd workers have lost jobs.

I hope both RM and the CWU issue strongly worded statements about Ofcom's incompetence and take it further.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I really hope the whistl posties get jobs soon. Seem like a good gang... speak to them weekly..

I dont see royal mail, increasing walks to deal with the extra post... royal mail to me are slave drivers now..

And dont care about posties welfare...

I do not give a f*ck about this shower of parasites. The shower of parasites I fear are our doms. Guaranteed they will have wtl tomorrow with last weeks hymn sheet. It goes like this, the mail is dying away, it's frightening. Fear. Fear. Fear. Wonder how many posties will get their old jobs back after they have had VR?

I have just found out from whistle neighbour of mine that their union had just negotiated a 30 hour contract for the staff ???
seems dodgy ?
goodish news for Royalmail but will they employ staff NOW to help with rising mail volumes ?
and what about savings ? they don't need to make any now ?
