So what is the current package likely to include beyond headline of 6.7% with strings over two years and the elimination of Spanish practices? Speculation has been rife, but long-standing militants reckon that the CWU leadership has agreed to:

* Mail centre closures
* Up to six Door-to-Door deliveries for no extra pay
* The demise of early starts
* An increase in the retirement age to 62 or higher, along with the closure of the final salary scheme fund to new entrants
* The end of Sunday collections, and
* A divisive bonus scheme that exchanges job losses for little in extra pay.
Fcuk me, if that is what the PEC recommend we take, they can get lost....

Only Unison local government. Health have already been sold down the river when the leadership threatened local branches who weren't "neutral" on forcing yes vote to the pay cut.

There's no way Unison will change it's stripes, it's unreformable as can been seen by the first ever dispute it was involved in all the way up to this current one. Any meaningful activity will only happen independently of the union structures, otherwise it eventually gets absorbed into them.

UNISON is a terrible union no doubt, but there is a lot of anger about the 2.4% offer and a strike could well happen. Surely that will be of benefit to CWU strikes?

And you're right, we need action independently of the bureaucrats.

That's the key I think. Someone before siad union movmeent what union movmeent and they have a point. At least in the CWU there's a good tradition of action from the rank and file but unless this begins to get co-oridnated in a rank and file movmeent to organise action supported by members then the fight to save the post and conditions could be lost.

I think over the coming days and weeks it's important to make moves towards forming a network of militants in the post.
