Council backs plans for new sorting office

Council officers gave their blessing to plans for a new portable sorting office for postmen in Haddenham, despite the concern of village councillors.


Kenneth Walker applied to East Cambridgeshire District Council for permission to locate the new office, to be used by Royal Mail, in High Street.

There were no objections from neighbours to the plans but the parish council said the development could cause traffic problems in a congested area of the village.

The parish council told planners: “The parish council would approve and support this proposed development but there are concerns about additional traffic entering and leaving the yard and the impact this might have on the existing problem of illegal parking at the top of High Street.”

But planning officer Richard West did not share the parish council’s concerns and granted permission for the plans, for a period of three years.
