UPDATE (4.10pm): The collision on the M4 between Bristol and Bath has been cleared and traffic has returned to normal.
The incident involved a Ford Focus and a Royal Mail lorry. The two vehicles moved to the hard shoulder after colliding on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 19 and 18.
According to Avon and Somerset Police, the driver of the Ford Focus required medical treatment and has been taken by ambulance to the RUH in Bath.
