Someone could get seriously hurt if the post box fell
Children could be in serious danger from a leaning Tonbridge post box which could fall and crush them.
For the past two weeks a post box at the junction of Quarry Hill Road and Woodside Road has been left taped up and out of use after it started leaning several weeks before.
But Michael Rogowski, 51, of Sir Davids Park in Southborough is worried that it needs to be sorted out before it falls down and seriously injures someone.
He said: "On the corner of the junction there is a large brick column with a small post box in it and it probably weighs about 3.5-4 tonnes."I noticed it a few weeks ago that it was tilting about five to ten degrees from the verticle. It's so heavy and you can see the bottom of the column tilting like the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
"But instead of dealing with it the post box has been sealed off and there's red and white plastic tape around it.
"It's next to a walking route where there's lots of school children or women with pushchairs and if it's going to go it will do so suddenly and anyone near enough would get badly injured or there could be loss of life."
Mr Rogowski used to work in the mines and said as a result he is "more aware of geology".
He drives past the post box regularly on his way to work and said: "I would hate to think of someone ending up in a wheelchair because this hasn't been sorted out.
"Unless it's dealt with it's going to continue to tilt millimetre by millimetre and it will go so needs to be cordoned off and safely moved before something bad happens."
Royal Mail spokesperson Sally Hopkins said: "We have had to temporarily close the post box as the brick pillar and wall in which the box is located is in a poor state of repair and may pose a safety risk to our customers who use it, or our staff who collect mail from it. We are trying to contact the owner of the pillar and wall to get them to repair them so we can reopen the box as soon as possible. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause.
