It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

common sense?

whats that supposed to mean?

down to the discretion of whoever is sorting the frame, or dare i say it the supposed support that hct duties are supposed to get from said drivers?

the drivers leave the office before the hct duties can even look at there frame and are stuck with a ridiculous amount of packets/parcels of all shapes and sizes.

I am not here to point out the obvious here, all I am after is some actual documentation of whats regarded as acceptable and whats not.

There is no documentation regarding packets in an HTC,you need to work together, have you a rep there?
You could ask for a World Class Mail champion to visit, that usually helps peeps, see your DOM about it.

the easiest way I do it is. fill your trolley up to the maximum weight you are allowed and let a manager deal with the rest. simples

They'll just arrange a bag drop.

If you load your trolley backwards, the bit that won't fit in is the first part of your duty so a bag drop is pointless. (Just about to start)
Sometimes it is easier to give a few packets for one street rather than try and arrange a time and place for a bag drop.
Managers and drivers don't seem to understand that.

But the maximum gross weight (104Kg for MkI HCTs?) is exactly that, a maximum weight, it does not mean that every OPG should leave the depot with a 104Kg HCT.
Superman/woman can leave the depot with a 104Kg HCT if they like, but as a middle aged OPG with a weak back, I will not take out a HCT with more than ~75Kg gross weight (so ~40Kg of mail).

In theory, I believe we should all have access to a parcel template (40x10x10cm or 30x20x20cm size?), if a parcels fits through it and weighs less than 1Kg(?) it should be taken out by the HCT under normal circumstances.
But in reality, many linos will ask HCT users to stream their parcels, as a way of assisting OPGs who feel they would go over and they do not want the overtime (rather than cutting off a section of mail and parcels). Other depots have an agreement where anything "adult shoe box size" can be put out for van drivers to do, make of that definition what you will! It can depend so much on the day's workload, if you are absolutely hammered and you don't want much/any overtime, you are more likely to put parcels out.

Another grey area in the murky world of RM!

Was forced off a HCT duty and made to van share, because some lazy driver didn't want to do 6 extra packets A day!
