A defendant who told a judge that the CIA had a £4 million contract out to kill him caused a fracas in a post office.

Anthony Ballance, 35, formerly of Brun Grove, Marton, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner.

He was put on 12 months’ supervision and ordered to pay £85 costs with £60 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Pamela Baldwin sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said the incident happened on March 25 this year.

The court heard how Ballance went into Marton Post Office and started shouting and being abusive.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, told the judge Ballance said he had drunk three litres of cider before committing the offence.

Mr Nelligan added: “He has an alcohol problem.

“He can get distracted and can become abusive without intending to.”
