Postman Shaun Wright loved his job.
A MUCH-LOVED postman who served the Cleethorpes area for nearly 30 years has been remembered by his wife as a "proud father and loving husband".
Shaun Wright sadly passed away at his family home in Portland Place, Grimsby, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
The experienced postman, who would have turned 48 today, made many friends during his time out on his rounds in an occupation which he had always wanted from a young age.
As was his wish, Shaun will be taken to the Grimsby Crematorium in a red Post Office van, followed by his former colleagues in a fleet of around 40 Royal Mail vehicles.
Becky Wright, 42, first met Shaun when she was just 15 years old after she was asked to babysit for his sister.
The couple were inseparable ever since, have been married for 17 years and are parents to nine-year-old daughter Lucia- Rose.
Becky said: "He was a man who was very content with what he had and he never had a bad word to say about anybody. We had been trying for nearly ten years to have a baby and eventually we got a little girl.
"She was the apple of his eye and he was the proudest and best daddy that she could have had.
"She was named Lucia because we got married in St Lucia.
"We had a very happy home and the number of cards and flowers I am surrounded by is testament to the type of man he was.
"We just had a normal family life and we loved each other so much."
She added: "He had always wanted to be a postman and he really loved his job.
"He always worked really hard and was really happy and proud that he was a postman."
Shaun, who has been described as a "big family man" by his wife, was an uncle to eight nieces and two nephews.
Described as a "fanatic" Leeds United fan, Shaun made many friends while playing for several football teams in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area.
He played for Rimar Salvage, Freeman United, the Rutland Arms and Schuberts FC – who he won the double with during the season 1995-1996.
"He loved football and played in left-midfield until he got too slow and moved to left-back," Becky said.
Shaun's former boss and delivery office manager at Royal Mail, Jason Moore, described the postman as "such a friendly guy".
He said: "We always used to have a bit of banter with him in the office because he was a big Leeds fan in Grimsby.
"He really did love his job and he's going to be such a big loss to us."
Shaun was admitted to hospital in December with suspected gall stones but tragically, this turned out to be pancreatic cancer.
Shaun sadly and unexpectedly passed away on Saturday at home.
Becky said: "He died peacefully while watching the football.
"We had a lovely family weekend away in Skegness before that over Easter."
She added: "I would like to thank all of our friends and family for the love and support they have shown us over the past few months."
The funeral will take place on Thursday, April 23, at 12.20pm at Grimsby Crematorium.
There will be a collection of donations at the funeral for the Mark Haydn Taylor Cancer Research Fund at the Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.
A celebration of Shaun's life will take place after the funeral at the Beach Restaurant in Cleethorpes.
