The point your making is national. Not only are we losing hours constantly out of our delivery offices, we have to rely on area reps rather than our own office union rep. Let the hairnet/brown nose/ brigade get on with it. They will NEVER change. They will never be full time. They are the sad workers of RM. They will STILL come in early and do even more lapsing after they have finished. Next year when mad Moya asks us for a new charity to support. The SRMES(Sad Royal Mail Early Starters ) should be our major benifitiary. They have to be pitied not harassed by area union reps.

When I 'run around' it hasn't all been for nothing. I have got back to avoid afternoon rain, go to footie, get the shopping done before tea, get some gardening done or lazing about in the garden before dark.
What I find now is we all all being punished for the excessive overtime folk book when taking 6 hours to do a 4 1/2 hour delivery.
Job and finish is long gone, you need to grasp this fact, except the fact that you have got to work all your paid hours which is not an unreasonable demand.

For all I care, you could have exclusive Star Trek transportation technology, allowing you to deliver your whole delivery in less than a minute. You have contract hours to fill, just like everyone else, only overtime should be optional.

I take it you don't ignore the other agreements we have like the pay rises and the paid sick leave.
:Applause As always FT, I agree with your comments. I'm quite looking forward to our next "Efficiency Savings" (in a weird way). I'm waiting for all the Runners to start bleating when they have extra work put onto their duties, because the are consistently finishing before their time. Although I have a niggling suspicion that the "Chosen Few" will probably get away with it! I'm not worried about picking up any extra work because I Work Properly :angel

And there is the anomaly.
The business expect 8 hours work for 8 hours pay but currently can do nothing about those that take 6 hours to do 4 1/2 hours work.

Is that OPGs claiming a walk takes 1 1/2 hours less to deliver due to...
Age?
Injury/disability?
Male/female?
Treating delivery as an extra fitness programme?
Not using mandatory LWTs and HCTs correctly?
Carrying pouches on their shoulder when not delivering to blocks of flats?
Carrying overweight pouches (>5Kg?) when delivering to blocks of flats?
Not filtering mail for next address while standing still?
Not giving attendance call recipients 1 minute to answer the door?
Placing non-signature attendance call items in unlocked porches or other insecure locations?
Willfully ignoring international barcode items, not scanning them with PDA, posting them straight through letterboxes?
Not taking or accounting for their paid meal relief?
etc.

Doing all the above "wrong" could easily save you 90 minutes and make a walk look achievable when it blatantly is not, before we even talk about how indoor work 318s are being ignored.

Blah Blah Blah.
I didn't stipulate delivery.
Sometimes people take a lot longer to do the same work as someone else because they are lazy and know they can get away with it.

I wonder if you would be so understanding If you were a p/t who arrived to find the duty that should be fully prepped for you, only half complete?

If I arrived on time and find that my delivery was not fully prepped then I would notify a lino and inform them that because of this I would struggle to make the time on the delivery, and hopefully have some taken off...

NOT

Come in to work 2 hours early like some folk!! This is exactly what messes the job up. If your duty is not fully prepped when you arrive you should insist that the only way that you will come in to work early to prep a duty - is if they pay you for it!!!!!

Coming in early....another reason why OPGs finish early and make 8 hours work look like 6 hours
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If we're talking about delivery I doubt there are many who would deliberately stay out on delivery for 6 hrs when they could be easily done in 4 1/2 hrs and take with it all that grief from management over performance and overtime. With P&L it would be even more difficult since you would really need the co-operation of your partner.

Perhaps in some areas with a minority of members but is it really a widespread issue?

So it is not specifically about delivery, well this particular part of RMC is about delivery and the topic is about a delivery office.

Like it was said, there is no way anyone can take 6 hours to do a job that takes 4.5 hours... Some walks are easy but not that easy and even if it is an easier walk - the postie will not come in to claim OT; so no problems there.

I do not think managers are that stupid to pay OT to someone 'doddling' on a walk. So I do not understand where motherhubbard is coming from... Some lazy posties - Yes, many lazy posties in delivery? NO!

Sadly, the job is still on a flexi - that is not going to change soon...

Most delivery postman love to deliberately stay out longer than neccesary especially when its snowing, pissing with rain or freezing cold.It really makes for a more enjoyable day

But I wasn't talking about delivery
Though as everyone else is ...
What if they do the 4 1/2 hours on delivery but still leave 1 1/2 hours work?
That has to get covered on overtime. But obviously docket Dan wants 3 hours to do it.
What then happens to the office efficiency?
And what if the DOM decides to lapse a duty to cover the overspend?

But this is all irrelevant.
The point was the business currently has no performance standards. That situation is unlikely to continue.

If a part-timer's duty doesn't get prepped properly it's usually a management/resource issue.
I don't normally see issues of laziness where people have designated duties to prep and it's properly resourced

It does become a problem when OPGs are constantly moved about from one indoor job to another, It demotivates staff and is very inefficient but it's an issue of piss poor resource management rather than laziness on the part of most OPGs, Of course every office has its chancers but again that's a management issue.
