Surely this can never be implemented because posties are now trying every neighbour to deliver parcels, so no parcels are returned to office, so nobody needs to collect from office so nobody can 'Nominate a Neighbour'.

You can't possibly think anyone would consider dropping a tracked item with a neighbour and return the rest to the office lol!

If you have a tracked for serial buyer tomorrow then attempt to go to neighbour and on Friday you have normal packet and P739 it?

I ask the neighbour I take packets to if they are very friendly or just casual acquaintance of serial buyers and therefore make a judgement on how many packets I can leave with them and that's when I make a decision to only leave tracked just to keep myself within all the issued guidelines.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We have to take tracked to theree local post office and bring the rest of there parcels back to office so they have to go to two places to collect parcels ;)

I can understand the concept and to some shiny arsed Grad sitting in HQ it no doubt seems like a fine idea as he/she has probably never been out on a delivery. Its only when you start to dig a little deeper that things start to get messy, and believe me this one will. Posters have already raised the problem of residents being nominated without their consent but even with consent there is still the problem of people moving house (at both end of this little redirection service) or even starting a job that prevents them from being home when the delivery OPG is delivering so for starters whatever records are being held at the local DO will soon be out of date. Talking of records, who is going to maintain this (vast) database ??? ... and where will the time come from. Most OPGs know their round, they know a lot of the people on that round and who to leave items with when people aren't in ... there will always be items that cannot be delivered that's why there is a callers office ... the best way to minimise redelivery and non-delivery is for the recipient to specify a time (and optionally a safeplace/neighbour) that best suits them when ordering items online and to achieve delivery of such requires a service that can accommodate this kind of flexibility.

Oh ... and (receipt) customers should be allowed to Opt Out of DTN if they wish (they can do it when they PU their item from their local callers office or PO :cool )

A lot of this can be avoided by having items delivered to your place of work, when you order these items you do realise you are going to be at work when it comes. I send stuff to my wifes work address, addressed to her, its a no brainer. She then brings it home with her and if it is large I pick her up in the car.

This can work in some places but many companies will not allow it.

I wonder if RM will include this in the software for the new PDA's,when the name of a person is keyed into the new PDA's,will it come up with an alternative address for them if you press not delivered?.That will be ok until you have more than one person with the same name on your walk, mind you I'm not holding my breath as it's far too advanced for the clowns in charge.

What if the nominated neighbour is on another delivery duty; on your duty but requires a good 5+ minute walk there and back (to then confirm where parcel has been left) etc. and I don't want to go over my contracted hours per my right?

Just like every normal day for years then.

I think we should all nominate a postie based at the opposite end of the country, to make a point of how ill thought this is... Or maybe all give CWU HQ as our nominated neighbour. :thumbup

Then go round at 11:30pm to pick them up. :cool

Seriously that is what is happening to some of my customers. This is worse than getting cold callers on the phone and there are regulations about it. We are still quoted as being the end of the delivery point but now that is open to any Dick, Tom , or Harry we offload on. Our DOM turns off it's mobile so it's not "disturbed" yet thinks it is ok for us to bang on someones door day after day just so it hits it target.
