Most of all it's s**t because it shouldn't be necessary in the first place.
Yeah, i thought thats why during the revision all the rounds were adjusted to fill the hours and we have longs and shorts for the busier and quieter days. But then they shove lapsing on top as well and think you can still get done on time

So if i am having any issues in the workplace, like when i am being 'forced' to lapse another delivery which the gaffer knows quite well will take us over our schedule time I just show him this flyer, and bob (or billy hayes) is your uncle, the lapsing is gone??

Wrong!!

They initially try and fob you off by telling you to just claim the overtime, but what if you don't want the overtime? What if you simply want to work the hours for which you are being paid for the day??

One area which can initially dumfound a rookie postie is the 2nd one on the list - the 30 minutes flex. But its not if you absolutely insist on working to your time for that day, which I suspect a lot of posties would rather do. Otherwise when will you arrange to get those 30 minutes back later in the week? My understanding is that the flex perhaps solves a temporary problem for the managers on the day but it is entirely optional and this should be stated.

The 3rd one appears to have some mystique about it in our office or at least that is the impression that I get. Our lino often says he has no idea what the traffic levels are whilst we know for a fact that packet traffic cannot be precise because who is to know how many packets there are in a York Container?? Besides, why should individual posties have to make their own individual case not to lapse to managers by asking them if traffic is above model week?? I've said it before, a decent CWU rep is a proactive one who finds this out for the benefit of the whole section not to friggin lapse for goodness sake!!

And finally the last one is immediately laughable when there is a queue of managers at the entrance asking each post person how many tracked items they have brought back and questioning why they did not try knocking on more neighbours doors in order to get rid

And the price, for standing up to the bosses whilst everyone else has conveniently forgotten their break, flying out the door to get the lapsing done is a load of grief, disagreements with the lino and petty bullying. It is no coincidence too that the CWU bullying email address is also included at the bottom, so that is of some comfort....

No such thing as lapsing. The old lapsed walks have already gone and the extra addresses are now on our frames as part of our delivery.

Is it that the Communication Workers Union seems to have become the "Communications Union"?
