Well as it was explained to me, and it was really at the start of the tracked system, was the scaling was timed before 9, before 1 pm and just on the day, then a signature if required, or just declared as delivered, each item of course would be "trackable" throughout its journey through the RM system and each option involved an added charge. I believe that RM have been side tracked with the volume of parcels and packets and haven't as yet opened the trackable system to ordinary customers. Once that happens I believe the tracked items will be a real winner for RM.Lounge Lizard wrote:I didn't know that, 'Signature Required' Tracked with appropriate compensation level was to replace Special Delivery ?dvbuk55 wrote:Tracked was supposed to have been a multi layered system with separate options tailored to a customers requirement, however the concept and the ability to deliver wasn't possible. SD and Recorded was intended to be phased out and tracked options tailored to replace them.

I think it's more of a case that RM has got to offer tracking on everything as every other courier for a good few years now has tracked every single last item passing through their systemdvbuk55 wrote: I believe that RM have been side tracked with the volume of parcels and packets and haven't as yet opened the trackable system to ordinary customers. They can do that because the volume they deliver and the volume we deliver is vastly different.SpacePhoenix wrote:I think it's more of a case that RM has got to offer tracking on everything as every other courier for a good few years now has tracked every single last item passing through their systemdvbuk55 wrote: I believe that RM have been side tracked with the volume of parcels and packets and haven't as yet opened the trackable system to ordinary customers. I agree that Signed For / recorded is dated, but it's a service that is widely used. Solicitors and court letters that require a signature as proof of receipt. Copyright often uses the service.
If anything does replace it be it a Tracked service or whatever - it will still need signing for and as far as the actual delivery goes will therefore take the same time.

Re: is it time to get rid of the signed for letters?
The biggest reason signed for is pointless is that signatures on the PDAs look nothing like they're supposed to. Might not be a problem once we get the new ones, but so many people have realised this that they now just scribble on the screen and don't even try to sign.

Makes me laugh when I see addresses get the same letter duplicated, one with and one without Signed For.
Why not simply replace Signed For with Scanned On Delivery?

As above, letters and anything below standard letterbox size should be scanned on delivery and put through. You want a signature you send it Special Delivery.

Let's start an E-petition for the Let's get rid of Recorded Delivery !!
If we collect 100,000 signatures then our E-petition is eligible to be debated in the House of Commons. If we leave it to Royal Mail we will waiting for as long as it takes Richard Branson to start a new colony on mars...
Oooops hang on a minute....how many staff are actually working for us now???

Lol, you can always '.' the PDA... then when it comes to online signatures, you could potentially say it was the crappy PDA playing uptrevjim wrote:olilew wrote:trevjim wrote:Ive so many customers on my round that ASK ME to sign for things on their behalf if it will fit through the letterbox. its such a waste of time filling out a p739 and customer driving to collection office to collect something that would go through the box.
why not just make signed for letters all tracked no signiture needed , that way there is an element of security on the item and saves alot of time
You sign for stuff on their behalf? That's career suicide mate!

For "you could potentially say" read "I could lie".karchun wrote:Lol, you can always '.' the PDA... then when it comes to online signatures, you could potentially say it was the crappy PDA playing uptrevjim wrote:olilew wrote:trevjim wrote:Ive so many customers on my round that ASK ME to sign for things on their behalf if it will fit through the letterbox. its such a waste of time filling out a p739 and customer driving to collection office to collect something that would go through the box.

You can potentially say anything you like but that doesn't mean a manager has to believe it, Remember that a dismissal does not require any proof, just a reasonable judgement call. Once that call has been made it's very difficult to unmake it, appeals managers do not like undermonong the judgement of other managers and the Employment Tribunal system is an expensive lottery where the vast majority of rulings go in favour of the employer as long as proper procedure has been applied.karchun wrote:Lol, you can always '.' the PDA... then when it comes to online signatures, you could potentially say it was the crappy PDA playing up
It amazes me in this employment climate why people would take pointless risks with a still decent, reasonably paid job. Do it right or find another job and let someone with a little more sense have this one.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
