BEBINGTON CH63 POSTCODE IS THE MOST DESIRABLE PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK IN ENGLAND

• Royal Mail has commissioned a study of postcodes to find the most desirable places to live and work in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland based on a range of factors including good schools, access to green spaces and average commuting times
• Located close to the River Mersey, the CH63 Bebington in the Wirral postcode district comes out on top in England
• The IP5 postcode district covering the Suffolk town of Kesgrave near Ipswich is the second most desirable place to live and work in England
• In Scotland, the postcode district of G78 Neilston on the outskirts of Glasgow is the most desirable
• The SA6 postcode district – representing Morriston near Swansea – tops the list in Wales
• Craigavon in County Armagh (BT64) is Northern Ireland’s most desirable place to live and work

Royal Mail has commissioned a study of postcode districts to find the most desirable places to live and work in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

The study, by the Centre for Economic and Business Research (Cebr), calculated the most desirable areas based on a range of factors including good schools, access to green spaces, good employment prospects, affordable housing and average commuting times.

Steve Rooney, Head of Royal Mail’s Address Management Unit, said: “Royal Mail delivers to the UK’s 29 million addresses, six days a week, connecting communities and businesses.

Our study provides unique insight into the most desirable places to live and work in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, through the lens of the postcode.

“The invention of the postcode revolutionised the way post is sorted and delivered. As it has evolved, the postcodes has also revolutionised the way companies do business. The postcode system, with origins dating back more than 150 years, continues to play an integral role in today’s technology-led world.”

Northern towns are the most desirable when it comes to work-life balance in England

Northern locations dominate the English top ten with the Wirral postcode district of CH63 topping the list.

Located close to the River Mersey, Bebington residents enjoy the ideal balance of being able to live close to their place of employment, good schools and high employment.

The highest southern postcode district to appear in the top ten is the old town of Kesgrave in Ipswich.

The outer city suburbs feature heavily in the Scottish top ten thanks to the affordable cost of living, lower levels of crime and better schools – compared to the city centre - as well as lower commute times and better access to services than those further into the countryside. Twelfth century former industrial town, Neilston (G78) in East Renfrewshire tops the table.

Wales’ earliest planned industrial village tops the list
Unlike England and Scotland - where the most desirable postcodes to live and work are concentrated in certain areas - the top ten Welsh areas are dotted all around the country from seaside towns to outer city suburbs. The earliest planned industrial village in Wales, Morriston in Swansea, proves to be the most desirable due to its mix of low unemployment and reasonable house prices.

Since its construction as a new planned settlement in the 1960s, BT64 residents enjoy lower than average commuting times, fewer people working over 50 hours a week and affordable housing. In addition, there is high employment, low crime rates, good schools and local services are within easy reach.
