Royal Mail fail as even sorry letters go wrong

FORGET the postman never ringing twice, it seems one postman doesn't double check house numbers either.

Over the last three months, letters and packages clearly marked for number eight at one Bedford block of flats have consistently been shoved through the letter box of another home on the same street.

Driven mad by the mail mishaps, Philip Ewington, of Clapham Road, said even Royal Mail's apology letters for misdelivering his post failed to make it into his own mailbox and 'no one seems to understand why this is happening'. He said: "It's bizarre. Bundles of my post have been sent to my neighbour over, and over, and over again." The serial mis-deliverer cannot be traced as the regular postman is covered by a relief officer on Wednesdays.

But Mr Ewington is still scratching his head over how the substitute postman is mixing up two clearly signposted blocks of flats each week.

Because we only have a couple of seconds to sort and deliver mail, it's not that hard to mess up at either prep or out on delivery.

No excuse, it should not happen. Every Postie miss delivers occasionally , including myself. But to keep repeating the same mistake is inexcusable. The three c's spring to mind. Coaching, counselling and conduct. Then I'm afraid if the problem still persist, sack em!

It's not going to be the same person, probably not the same person prepping the duty so it is very easy for it to happen.

You should still be checking the mail on the doorstep before you deliver it though, to ensure the correct mail is being delivered to the correct address.
