Concerns have resurfaced over Royal Mail’s delivery service in parts of Cavendish after residents complained of undelivered post.
The issue was raised at a Cavendish Parish Council meeting on Wednesday after residents in some parts of the village, in particular Poole Street and Greys Close, reported that their post had not been delivered on several occasions.
Peter Stevens, a borough councillor for Cavendish, contacted the Sudbury sorting office in a bid to reassure residents, but has so far had no reply.
“We had a similar problem in 2011 when letters weren’t being delivered,” he said. “This seems to have reoccurred again.”
Mr Stevens said the problem could be a result of postmen having too many houses to deliver to within their daily hours.
“If he [the postman] finishes those hours and there are still letters to be delivered, that is a fairly disgraceful situation to be in,” he said.
“The residents deserve the postal service that they have paid for. If the postman misses his deadline, do the letters return to the sorting office undelivered?”
Mr Stevens said the delivery service in the centre of the village where he lives has been reliable, but the problems on the western side seem to have resurfaced.
In the centre of Cavendish, post is usually delivered at around 11am, which Mr Stevens said is an acceptable time.
“There were reassurances that the situation had been resolved but it looks like it has slipped back in to the old ways,” he added.
“It would appear to be a management failure rather than the hard work of the postman.”
Royal Mail spokeswoman Morag Turnbull said there has been some teething problems as staff adapt to new routes.
“We apologise to customers who may have experienced late deliveries in some areas of Cavendish recently,” she said.
“This has been caused by changes made to our delivery operation in the area as part of our ongoing modernisation and transformation programme.”

Of course it has to be issues with the staff ... nothing to do with the management or the planning process. A good manager always backs his staff (sometimes even when they are in the wrong), RM look to theirs as a convenient scapegoat again and again.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Royal Mail spokeswoman Morag Turnbull said there has been some teething problems as staff adapt to new routes.”

Modernisation - two days a week delivery soon so they need to get used to it.

Lets face it most customers have already got used to it and if RM don't pull their finger out and start competing in the parcel sector all that will be left is a team of PT leaflet deliverers with a little direct advertising thrown in for good measure.meercat wrote:Modernisation - two days a week delivery soon so they need to get used to it.
