Biggest perk is being out of the office in the fresh air with no gaffer watching your every move and of course seeing the smiles on the customers faces when they get their parcels
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I had one guy the other month tell me to close his gate after I opened it and it wouldn't as I had to quite literally kick it top open it! It had jammed on the gatepost due to the wood being swollen in the rain/damp, he came out and moaned at me so I told him it wouldn't close. He got the hump and slammed it shut and broke the latch as it bounced back and hit him on the leg! He then spent the next few minutes trying to fix the now broken latch and then gave up. I walked back past his house, in the close, and he looked at me and muttered something and walked back indoors. The next day, the gate wasn't there, and it's still not back yet, to this day!
Quite amusing as on his gate post is a sign saying "please shut the gate" :left:

Why do so many residents keep their gates (and letterboxes) in a state of disrepair and think it is perfectly acceptable to expect the postie (and others) to physically lift the gate to open/close it?

What do you think will happen if you injure yourself doing this, boys and girls, when it comes out in interview with manager?

It is the residents responsibility to provide safe access to their property. Dodgy gate, endorse the mail as such and take it back to the depot.

Customers moan about the stupidest things; like they have nothing better to do

There's a quiet cul-de-sac where i deliver and there's no front or side gates at all. But recently one guy's been complaining to customer services that I'm walking past his window!!

He's starting putting his bins there to block me off so I have to make a special detour around his car
