Responding to revelations that CWU members are among trade unionists who were spied on by undercover police involved in blacklisting, CWU has reacted with anger and is calling for a public inquiry.


Billy Hayes 2010 Billy Hayes, CWU general secretary, said: "Once again the secret state is revealed. It seems trade union activists are still the enemy within.
"More transparency on such matters would perhaps have avoided some of many miscarriages of justice, including Hillsborough, and the Jimmy Saville cases. We need a full public inquiry to address the blacklisting scandal."

Blacklist Support Group The revelation that CWU members were under surveillance came from evidence from ex-undercover police officer turned whistleblower, Peter Francis. A statement and apology from him was read out at the book launch of 'Blacklisted' by Dave Smith and Phil Chamberlain, in Parliament last night.

what a revelation.....
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.

If they spied on our reps there would be nothing to report on, they don't do anything. :whistle

Maybe not now , but there was a lot going on in and around the late 90's early 2000 period , I know that for sure .

Ever thought that the fact that some are accused of doing nothing, and may indeed be pretty inactive, is precisely because of the shadowy world of 'unsaids' and nods and winks that this guy has blown into the open. Discrimination against stewards is rife across industry in the UK, and leads to a particular type of steward predominating who only looks after himself.
