I read the folowing in the Observer:
Post strikes called off as deal is struck on pay and conditions

The Observer

The worst industrial action at the Royal Mail for more than a decade is close to resolution after unions agreed to moves to outlaw the so-called Spanish practices at the heart of the dispute.

Tomorrow afternoon, the union's executive board will meet to rubber-stamp the package, which will then be put to the union's 130,000 Royal Mail members, who are expected to vote to accept it. The union has called off all planned action while the ballot is held, which is expected to take up to a month. Both sides will claim victory in the dispute that has paralysed the postal network. The dispute - which began in June when Royal Mail made its first offer of a pay rise linked to efficiency improvements - has seen the first national postal strikes take place since 1996.

It is understood the deal includes phasing out up to 92 'Spanish practices' such as staff who complete their delivery round early being paid extra for doing more work, or automatically earning overtime if the amount of mail reaches a certain level. Neither side, however, would confirm details of the agreement.
Royal Mail has argued throughout the dispute that introducing modern working methods is essential to its survival. It is expected to keep its current pension scheme open to existing employees but it is understood the union has backed down on demands to include new recruits. A 2.5 per cent pay rise this year will be followed by a smaller rise next year

So this deal looks WORSE than when we started in June. I can't believe that our leaders want us to accept this. PLEASE email a PEC member you iknow and tell them not to vote for the deal if this is true. THE PEC MUST BE FORCED TO REJECT THIS.

I can guarantee the PEC won't reject this - they are looking to progress in the gravy train stakes. What the PEC will do will be to put it to the members with the rider that "it is the best deal available" and hope there are enough dupes to vote FOR it.

There was always the feeling in the background that a shafting was on its way and ...............................

They tried making us throw off other deliveries as well as our own earlier this year in my office to save money.

Result? Everyone on my matrix threw it off slow as they didnt know the frame then either cut off or claimed OT when they didnt have time to finish their own prep...lasted for about 2 weeks and then got scrapped.

Flexibility will mean less work gets done as the incentive to by more efficient (i.e. extra cash) isnt there.

WRONG

the screws will have complete control of your working hours under this new system, this means if they think tuesdays are light in your office they'll get you to start 30 mins later, still expect you to finish and bank the saved hours for a busier period . . . . . . . also, if you think 6.00am starts are a pain, under this new system they have the right to alter your times by up to 2 hours either end of the duty, so what's to stop them making it a 7.00am or even 8.00am start if they wanna . . . . . all we want, is to know what our hours are on a regular basis, is that so much to ask ?
Billypants-Nail-Head...they can move your duty time as they see fit,so if they dump half a round on you and you say "i'm going over my time" they can adjust your time accordingly and bank the hours you have worked over..then when it's light..Next tuesday or next summer..they will watch you go home early and consider it "even".2 questions though..if you leave the company and you OWE them hours will this be taken from any severance pay AND if they OWE you hours will you be paid extra?? who controls the "bank" in which these hours are kept? if you have a discrepancy in your hours which they don't agree with is it your word against doms?? Is every single postman in the country expected to keep a detailed log of hours over/under his annual allocation. This sounds like a good way for Doms and especially SOMs to get us working extra for free...this annualised hours thing sounded bad from the offset and it sounds Worse everyting time i hear it....Oh and don't think you can slow down and take your time to push up your hours bank...what on earth do you think Vehicle telemetry and tracking is for??? Mrs Bloggs comes out for her daily chat with postie....The clock is ticking...stop for meal relief..the clock is ticking..you get the picture..mark my words people...Flexibility working is going to leave us incredibly vunerable. lotta love.
PISTOL . . . . firstly why the personal insults (nail-head) we seem to be very much on the same side and against flexible working

secondly . . . . no they can't just extend your duty to allow you to cover an unattended round as any change under 30mins requires 24hrs notice and anything over that, up to 2hrs, requires a weeks notice

thirdly . . . . . all I want is regular hours so I can actually have a life outside royal mail, I will happily work at a steady pace the full 40 hours a week and have been for some time now . . . . . working to the 318 is the only way to go from now on but don't believe that will stop the screws finding a way to use flexible working, we must reject it NOW

Ah . . . . . . . ooops   seems I well and truly picked up the wrong end of the stick there, thought "nail-head" was some kinda local insult. . . . . now I see I've been rather too touchy, all this confrontation with the screws has me a bit on the jumpy side . . . . . . a thousand apologies PISTOL and my regards to the egg throwing Mrs Pistol (my hero) :pray
