Why is my post delivered as late as 5.30pm?

ONCE upon a time, you could almost tell the time of day by the delivery of post Royal Mail made in my road.

Nowadays, the time the post is delivered would have most residents here scratching their heads as to the time of day. The times vary from a very good 9.30am right down to 5.30pm.

I do not know why the times vary, the route is the same. Whatever the reason for the vast difference in delivery times, I wish we could all have it by 7.30am like in the old days.

To be honest, if it came much later than 5.30pm, it may as well be delivered early next day.

So Royal Mail, put down that tea or coffee and please explain why the post is delivered in Rose Hill at such varying times. Anyone else have such sporadic times to mention?

Because probably; They are so understaffed, as many colleague's are off sick they have nobody to cover your walk. They are relying on people to work overtime to cover the uncovered walks and if nobody wants the extra, then it can wait 'til tomorrow, so some poor sod can cover two day's in one.

I would say it's either workload issues or lack of staff.

its called efficiency/the way forward. and you the customer WANT your mail at these times, or so they tell us

What do they expect to happen? The posties who are available to do this work can only be in one place at a time. Somebody has to come last when I'm delivering 2 rounds in one day, and it's often at around the 5pm mark. We try to make sure the same neighbourhoods aren't affected too often but always there has to be a street which comes last.

Today I got a bank statement, 3 d2ds and an invitation to take out a contract with Virgin media, haven't got a clue what time it came as I was at work but to be honest I couldn't give a fook whether it came at 7.30, 12.30, 5.30 or tomorrow for that matter ! Just wondering why it's taking so long to sink in that the post isn't late, this is the time you get it now.

I can appreciate that for home businesses getting mail is an advantage, there's no real way you could prioritise these customers though.

Residential delivery times are not the only problem, early collections from certain boxes are another example of the erosion of the service. It had to come with privatisation and I'm pretty sure there are will be more changes in the future that the customers will not particularly like. Putting safeguards in place to protect the USO and the service as a whole by OFCOM would have been so much easier to justify if RM had remained in public hands now it's just a question of competing at all costs.

No he probably voted for the political party responsible but as Labour have in the past supported part privatisation unless there was a referendum it would be difficult to blame the electorate. As a customer he has every right to complain about what he sees as an erosion of service levels the public don't know and probably don't care about the internal issues facing OPGs ... they pay their money and expect a service. When it comes to areas of the service where customers now have a real choice I'm sure people like Chris Boswell will deal with and get over it as you say.

Your post will arrive eventually but unfortunately due to efficiency drives we are not employing the necessary amount of staff to provide a decent service any more. Luckily we still have the funds to give all our managers nice big bonuses every year. So we are sure you will agree it's not all bad news!

Probably there already on that particular level of service. The senior "management" don't care about USO. Lose the USO? Who cares they would probably say, all they think of is the savings and their bonuses. Without the former ,they don't get the latter.
