Do you stay at work late, or regularly miss your lunch break? Today, on Work Your Proper Hours Day (27 February) workers should feel emboldened to make sure they leave the office on time.

Every year the TUC marks the first day of the year that workers doing unpaid hours effectively start to get paid for the work they do over the course of the year.
It's estimated that more than five million people in the UK contributed £28 billion worth of unpaid overtime in 2013 alone.

Billy Hayes 2010 "Work Your Proper Hours Day is about realising that many employees go above and beyond in their jobs and can be taken for granted," said general secretary Billy Hayes.

He continued: "It's estimated that about one in five workers do about eight extra hours of unpaid overtime a week - that really cuts in to the amount of time people have for their personal life.

"Working longer hours means less rest at home and no matter how much you love your job, everybody deserves a break."

The TUC has created an online unpaid overtime calculator so workers can find out how much financial reward they are missing out on. Take the test here. http://www.worksmart.org.uk/workyourpro ... /quiz1.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Everyday there's always the "runners" in early with their frames all ready, or nearly always thrown off. Out the door as soon as they're able and always doing docket, racking up the hours each week.
Then complaining that their feet/legs/knees hurt... along with other ailments.

This is an age old issue on this site, and at DO's across the UK. Management don't care, as they get clear offices and numpties more than willing to go more than the extra mile - so to speak - by coming in early and working before their official start time, and not get paid for it, and then work their meal relief. All this just so they can get out "early" to complete and do their O/T and get home before their finish time.

I wonder what these types will do when they finally retire and are at home with "nothing to do" all day.
