Royal Mail is pleased to report that negotiations with the Communications Workers Union (CWU) have been successful and a settlement has now been reached.
We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience the strikes have caused, and thank you for your ongoing patience through this difficult time.
We are now working hard to return to normal as quickly as possible, but there is a significant build-up of mail that will take some time to clear. We will deal with all mail in the order in which we received it, and will re-instate all service guarantees and promises as soon as we are able to honour them.
Unofficial strike action

However we are very disappointed to report that some colleagues are currently taking unofficial strike action, in several parts of the country, which will inevitably lenghten our recovery period, and affect services in these areas. Please call our customer service helpline - 08457 950 950 for business customers and 08457 740 740 for residential customers - for the latest details.

Strikes that were unaffected by the court action have been canceled due to the low number of mbrs that would be taking place.

No strikes next week regardless of the PEC meeting outcome!

There is still an outside chance that the PEC will chuck it out though and not recommend it to the members. Thats what I meant its jumping the gun somewhat seeings as it was just Hayes and Ward at the negotiations - who's to say the PEC will in turn agree with what the terms laid down are?

Its all a bit presumptuous, judging by the feeling on here - the deal will be scrutinized and the Union is in danger of having a vote of no confidence against them........etc....etc

Netwrok is still out on wednesday unless we are told different. The injunction didn't affect any other days but Monday and Tuesday.

Sadly i think your giving the majority of the PEC far too much credit. Apart from a few excellent members most the the PEC wouldn't even make local reps in some branches. Completely based in where you live not what you know!!!

No mate in your branch you have some of the best local reps in the country!! There are people on the PEC - won't name them - who are a waste of space. Sat in London collecting their overnight payments

Considering the CWU site statement says that it is a joint RM/CWU statement, RM had a nerve posting their statement as I' prattled on elsewhere it's very misleading. But then they know that that is what the public will read.

Outsider's view -

I've been in mail order business for 5 years - through all previous industrial actions, our customers didn't know there was a strike. In July they didn't know there was a strike. In August they didnt' know there was a strike. That is because they were patchy and very limited (the strikes not the customers). I post regularly to a political forum, and they didn't know there was a strike, and didn't really care because it would be over in two days. The media barely reported it, even though IMV at least, it was a serious occurrance. This last action is the only one the public have noticed, because it went on over 4 days + a weekend. Even then we still had people ringing to make urgent orders, not realising there was a strike.

PS While at risk of shooting myself in the foot, I would suggest that if the members do not accept the CWU/RM agreement, they should go all out on a more prolonged strike for two reasons -

1) It will bring it to people's attention and so bring it to a head faster because everyone will know the score, including the people who matter, aka customers, and people will be more inclined to hear what you are saying when you say that you are doing this to preserve the public service.
2) Your union will understand that you are not prepared to accept mildly tinkered with versions of the original offer which was obviously far from agreeable to you.

While realising that you get no money if you strike, if you really feel that the RM has reached the end of the line as is, then perhaps you will feel that it is worth it. For what it's worth, I've had no wages for the last week either, so right now it's in my interest to make sure this is settled once and for all, even if it takes a while. Rolling strikes in limited areas are *not* working.
