i think you will find as soon as you step above your branch level things start to change and processes get followed pretty much to the agreementschrisj wrote:When you run out of people to go 'above their heads', then what?
the divisional reps will make sure that the correct IR processes are being followed thats what they will do, regardless of what opinions are lower down, they may well agree with those opinions of those lower down but there is really very little decisions they need to make, its either follow the processes agreed or not, and if seen to not follow them then royal mail are within their right to not follow them either, in fact an office can be completely in the wrong but if they want the IR process to be followed through then thats what will happen.chrisj wrote: You are right daveyeff, when a Branch does not support you then you have almost no chance above that... The guys at the very top are not usually the ones that really make the decisions about what happens on the ground. What will a Divisional Rep do that differently? They will consult the people much lower down and then make their decisions; and they will be loathe to undermine their subordinates...

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
Well a meeting was held and my manager, the area manager, union rep, area rep and divisional rep where all there.
Nothing will be done until everything is agreed so the manager seems to have jumped the gun with his deadline of 9th March to end 1 in 6s. Was damn difficult to hear what was being said most of the time though so I only picked up a few bits and pieces. I did have a quick chat with the div rep afterwards who seemed a decent enough bloke and he agreed hat the main problem stems from staffing levels being allowed to drop too low. Short term they will be looking at getting something sorted out to make sure Saturdays are fully covered. Possibly agency staff? Whatever happens we will all apparently be consulted before any decisions are made/finalised.
Anyway everything is still all up in the air will post if and when developments arise as it seems this is something they will be pushing for across the country now and not just my office!

The BT2010 states a minimum of 1 in 4, your Reps, Areas and Divs should be sorting this out.

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
You are right that it is a matter of opinion. However, you folks did try to fight losing your shift pattern (9-day fortnight)... But still lost because you were told it was not achievable any longer.
You talk about using VR.. It is an expensive option where the company and office could find an easier option... As you can see, there are many other offices that are properly overstaffed and the staff composition is far worse than yours.. They have been offered VR - many of them in London, I might add...
My real point is that if the Union is saying that this is the best cause of action then you will have to go with them, as they are the ones we elect to represent us... Talking about this process or that process - many of them pre-privatisation - is fanciful. I do not have a clue what zx is on about - he is just arguing for the sake.
Judging by the solution to your office: how can you continue to say that most of your office is right to want to keep the 9-day fortnight pattern?
You folks have gone completely the other way: to save jobs, your part timers have been shafted and some of the seniors are better off for saturdays off. Not what most of you wanted but it is a solution and the people will soon move as there are probably more vocal winners than the poor part-timers.
* By the way, it is possible for a whole load of people to be wrong. One person might be more right than a whole group of people especially where self-interest is at the forefront of the group's opinion.

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
well,,,,lets see what other people think in other offices when their agreements are walked over. by what we've been told this is to be a nationwide process of doing away with 9 day fortnights/3 over 4/ and wallintons. plenty of people thought the union leadership was wrong a few years back when a call for industrial action was knocked back by the members. we shall see.

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
plus it wasnt just the part timers.....some full timers lost their duties in the re-pick and returned to vicing while some part timers obtained duties even though they were junior. there was winners and losers. always seems to happen in these revisions/re-picks/ etc.

Sorry, you disagreed with my post initially and i am the one arguing for the sake of it?chrisj wrote:My real point is that if the Union is saying that this is the best cause of action then you will have to go with them, as they are the ones we elect to represent us... so you think its ok for union reps to refuse to follow agreements and processes? or do you think that they should be ensuring that the agreed processes and agreements between royal mail and the union should be followed if the office wishes them to be regardless of their personal opinions about the situation?
I think this is the crux of the matter, i believe you have been shafted in your own do and thus think the same should happen to everyone else, just because your office wont stand up for itself doesnt mean that other offices shouldnt as wellchrisj wrote: You folks have gone completely the other way: to save jobs, your part timers have been shafted and some of the seniors are better off for saturdays off. Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
Well the 1 in 6s have now gone apparently. It was voted on in my absence and from what I can tell the only options available were all crap. The option voted in was to lose the 1 in 6 and finish something like ten minutes earlier every day..... whoopee feckin dooooo!
Why no one proposed the radical option of perhaps just employing the full amount of staff which would allow the 1 in 6s to continue I guess I will never know!
Must thank the union reps for the total screwing they gave us all and for allowing us to pay them £3 a week for the privilege!

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
So you have agreed to return to 6 day delivery's without a day off just because some dick head managers cannot staff the office wonder what this means for all of us and the CWU because if they cannot keep the agreements they have negotiated then they don't have a union!.Judgee wrote:Well the 1 in 6s have now gone apparently. He probably means they are now back onto a normal 1 in 6 rotating day off instead of 1 week off in 6 rotation
