Those many OPGs that "filter" (flick through letter bundle to get mail for next address) while on the move, instead of standing outside the previous address, could easily use 8 minutes and many more, on a typical delivery duty.Darren Bent wrote:Saw a video about it and it save them 8 minutes by using new methods. Don't think it is worth all the effort and spending and manpower to do it.

Re: What exactly is indoor merging and outdoor merging
We shouldn't even be discussing outdoor merging with the company, it's a line in the sand issue or at least it would have been in the days when the union had such a thing. Purely from an H&S position it should be off the table. There's a point, whatever happened to the CWU health&safety department?, has it been closed down? I haven't heard a word from them in years.

Re: What exactly is indoor merging and outdoor merging
I think the point of talking about outdoor merging will only be seen in the endgame.
We will see the introduction of indoor merging and the CWU will claim a victory against outdoor merging and RM will point out that they are listening and working with the union to find solutions to the dire straits we find ourselves in.
Or maybe we will only end up with single wave and the CWU will claim 2 victories and RM will point out etc etc....
I don't think either make any sense.
A lot of posties have trouble tying their shoelaces. They won't cope with merging.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: What exactly is indoor merging and outdoor merging
My area rep told me last week that, should indoor merging be successful, it would mean a 15,000 reduction in jobs. Royal Mail itself reckons that there is a 33 minute saving per walk. Not too sure about that myself.

Re: What exactly is indoor merging and outdoor merging
I agree, I can't believe that anyone from RM or the union seriously believes that merging indoors or outdoors is even remotely workable which means as you say it's a distraction. It's rather low threatening job security just to big yourself up, pretend a defeat is a victory or fake a working relationship though. Pretty disgusting behaviour by both parties.clashcityrocker wrote:I don't think either make any sense.
