Work Place Coach Programme - Role and Responsibilities Cascade

Further to LTB 802/14 concerning the revised National WPC agreement in Delivery and Collections and the recruitment and training campaign, further discussions and exchanges of documentation has continued to take place between Royal Mail and the CWU, culminating in a jointly agreed presentation cascade containing the new agreement along with the new role and responsibilities of the WPC.



The presentation has been sent to Delivery Directors and CWU Divisional Representatives who will in turn begin the presentation cascade to Delivery Sector Managers (DSM) and CWU Area Representatives. The presentation will then filter through to Delivery Office Managers (DOM) and local CWU Representatives. It is envisaged that the cascade will commence from the 23rd February 2015 and over the coming weeks thereafter with the intention of concluding the cascade within a 3 to 4 week period.



Royal Mail managers will be sent an email from Sue Whalley explaining and positioning the cascade and the importance of the new role of the WPC. This email provides the communication to our Branches and CWU Representatives.



Existing WPCs will receive a home address mailing around the 19th February 2015, containing a joint letter from the CWU and Royal Mail accompanied by a new WPC brochure that outlines the new agreement, and also explains the role and responsibilities of the WPC. Further to this, there will be WTLL sessions in all workplaces explaining this new initiative which will be jointly presented by the DOM and local CWU Rep.



In the meantime ongoing recruitment activity to arrive at the 1:25 ratio will continue and all successful volunteers will also receive the 3 day training programme and all the appropriate documentation.

going up to 59 quid a week ive been told.

Be interesting to see exactly what they're new role and responsibilities are - in my office they simply get the extra pay and are asked to do nothing, ever and that's the way it's been for years.
Not sure many would have applied to the recent vacancies if they new the rolewas being changed and they had no idea what was involved.

The WPC role has always been voluntary and there is a selection process that they go through thats why they qualified the word Volunteers with Successful.

They are asking for cutbacks in offices on one hand and then spending money on this scheme in the other, just so managers have more time to drink their coffee.

Bit of a dilemma for our current coaches then.

They've been told that the new coaches role means they have to come off their current job, and every day they have to sweep up what deliveries are left.

As they are both pretty senior, they'll be some good jobs to sign for.

Not bad for £59 a week I suppose.

Can not see the point of the WPC role in its current format, it's only productive for new starters of which there are few and far between. Let's hope the new strategy for WPCs doesn't turn out to be another white elephant like WCM.

There is no point in the current role of WPCs, however it is my firm opinion they are being groomed to become team leaders in the new outdoor merging world of Royal Mail.
