All scans are recorded so one scan won't cancel out another

Just f***ing cut off from your route and make sure all specials are done before the allotted time.
This is what should be going on,it's not hard is it?

Also some offices have duties take specials that could fail and do them before the allotted time.
Again,it's not hard is it?

If there is a regular problem then get together as an office with management and sort it out.
Yadda yadda.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Am I missing something? You simply don't deliver specials after 1pm. Ever. No exceptions. The sender paid for the service because it is vital that the item arrive before 1.
Unless it is a Saturday and the SD item does not have a SG sticker.

Yet we get "cry wolf" reminders on our PDAs about all SD items must be delivered by 1pm, even on a Saturday.

If only the people paying for SG premium knew what was going on, they should be getting a price difference refund at least!

True, but senders get told specials aren't guaranteed to be delivered on a Saturday unless they pay for the SG service.

I don't know about other DOs, but we deliver every special we get on a Saturday regardless of whether it has a sticker on it or not.
We have a perfect record in aviation: we never left one up there.

We got told to scan the item as "Inaccessible" if we thought that we'd go over 1pm. Any scan AFTER 1pm is now conduct code.

Ask your DOM to put that in writing. If the customer complains, higher up will be able to see from the GPS data if delivery had actually been attempted. SG specials are kinda pointless really as the system doesn't care if it's a SG or not, it just sees any item not attempted after 13:00 as a failure. Also if we were to stop delivering specials that didn't have SG stickers on a Saturday, another courier would deliver them instead and we would risk the customer deciding to move all their special traffic over to the other courier.

Had this going on in my DO a while ago.
Also had the DOM asking me to scan tracked items appearing as outstanding on the first time delivery report as collected !

I got onto whistleblowing and was told that all of this is complete fraud and is now the subject of a national investigation.

Also rumours of staff and even a DOM losing their jobs over this type of tihng.

Don't do it - simple.
