I think the way the job is going I would be absolutely delighted that my hours are fully utilised, especially with the bulk of them being indoor, the only solution for the rest of us will be more part-time jobs and/or longer deliveries, rather than complaining I would be counting my blessings. However in my office even those that take 4 hrs to complete are getting home before me and therefore resting long before i can, we don't have many deliveries that take much more than 4.30 hrs.
I can honestly say that i sit down for about 15 minutes during my duty each day......plus of course the 40mins whilst on my enforced meal relief.

Re: Working paid hrs
I couldn't agree more with you on that, but i've seen deliveries finishing hours before me every day for the whole 5-6 years i've been on indoor duties.
At first i accepted it as part and parcel of working indoors - the sweeteneer for the indoor duties at my DO back then was to work a 1 in 4 rotate - meaning more long weekends off but ensuring we were all in for the busiest days of the week.
They then moved us all to a 1 in 6 rotate to make it FAIRER to all.
And here we are post revision nearly 14 months later and nothing has changed - so rumours of bigger and longer duties to balance things out are not taken seriously and i don't hold my breath.
The runners will always be allowed to run as long as they take that little bit extra each day to help the DOM and the trade off is they get to go home as early as they can finish.

Re: Working paid hrs
If you come back early in my office you are either sent out again or you throw d2d's in until your finish time. The manager/s just will not have it at all.So it is down to the management as i have worked in offices that turn a blind eye too.

Re: Working paid hrs
Once again, I'm surprised by DOs that actually have a Manager in the Office after 1200 to check on anybody.
From my experience most managers like to slip away as soon as they can....after all the Posties have gone out on Delivery.
Even had one that used to come in early (about 0500) do all the laptop stuff, then disappear with vans to the workshop, 0900 Specials, Doughnut Run? or anything else he could invent while all the Posties were prepping. Every time you tried to find him to tell him you weren't lapsing or you were cutting off he was nowhere to be found! We used to call him, "The Ghost".
After everyone had gone out he'd reappear (if you were lucky) make a few phone calls and then knock off early for the day.

Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

Re: Working paid hrs
When I was last visiting my old office all the managers, including the DOM where out on delivery, delivering uncovered lapsing, then after that they came back to do the days cut offs. Was gone 4pm and after before they left, mind you it just fills in for all those years when they were on the way home by 10.
