Yes I can't understand this North/South divide. The office I worked at is now on its 4th revision in ten years in the North and Willesden in the South hasn't had one in ten years and others have only just completed one since 2010, I mean who is doing the dividing here?El-Bandito wrote:This thread should be locked as it will get ugly. Absolutely pathetic that this is turning into a north /south argument. This is exactly what RM love. Divide and then conquer.

Re: Royal Mail offering VR with pay in lieu
It is pretty simply why Wilsden have not had a revision in the last 10 years and that up too the BT Transformation agreement there was no requirement to have a revision nationally.
Wilsden was at the backend of the planning for BT2010 and they have reduced full time jobs by 25 which is one of the biggest reductions in the UK.
Prior to BT 2010 , too many offices accepted geo route revision when the national union was saying there was no national agreement.
If you were Royal Mail where would you go each time you wanted savings an office which said yes all the time or an office which said no and you know what if you try and introduce a revision without agreement we will ballot and fight you.
Tell me prior to 2010 when that office should have done a revision ? Under Pay and Mod ? no requirement !!
Of course the world has turned and with added competition in London and other cities workload has dropped. So Wilsden will probably have to do a second revision within the next 6 months as their model week will show their is too many hours.

You mean a first revision don't you seeing they haven't had one in ten years and if they've only lost 25 in ten years and they're over-manned now!!!. If the big delivery areas had been more productive and cost effective sooner then TNT et al wouldn't have been able to muscle in but as you say there was no requirement so they didn't modernise and now TNT are delivering the mail.dingo wrote: So Wilsden will probably have to do a second revision within the next 6 months as their model week will show their is too many hours.

With only 12 years you might not be senior enough to get it if it was offered in your DO, but according to the MTSF2 VR Ready Reckoner it would be 45 weeks VR payment.Rommagic wrote:What would 12years service for a 34 year old be worth?.

After the VR packages are going to change in the next few months, how much lower do you all think they will be? Or will they stay the same?

Could someone point to the "don't panic CWU members, we're doing this and that to protect your jobs thread"?
This one is depressingly fatalistic.
Do we have a super duper plan dingo or are we just "managing the decline" to use a particularly ugly Royal Mail turn of phrase? We don't need highly paid union officials to negotiate VR, an admin assistant on minimum wage would do.

Well due to the impending election I believe Chester Zoo has an appropriate candidate who would be more than adequately qualified to negotiate and would work for a pittance, well peanuts in fact and the odd piece of fruit and if at all possible a tea party now and then.fishtank wrote:Could someone point to the "don't panic CWU members, we're doing this and that to protect your jobs thread"?

Had that office had a revision every year it could possibly have lost 2 members of staff each year and the transformation would have been fairly painless.dingo wrote:

Human beings on the whole loathe change and to lose 25 f/t staff in one go is an enormous change.
Assuming they can get 25 to go and recruit 25 p/t staff to replace them, human nature being what it is, the result is still going to be a massive failure.
How is that going to help the drive to greater efficiency that Ofcom want?
And unless everyone is really dim, I don't see how this enhanced VR package is going to help. Do RM go to Ofcom and say - look we've thrown some more money at the problem. That makes us more efficient.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Royal Mail offering VR with pay in lieu
Maybe it is against a previous agreement, but if RM need to offer VR, you would allocate it to the most junior members interested so less payout?
Sounds like Wilsden could kill two birds with one stone, if they have vacancies and need to lose FT, simply make use of the many different shift patterns out there to cover all duties six days per week using the current staff?
