DB1100 wrote:welcome to the world of part time workers.
Spent my first 5 years as a part-time worker, while I held down another job.
No mail was ever prepped for me never mind any D2D, the f***ers didn't even clear my boxes down or empty my drop bag.
We didn't even have the luxury of sequenced mail.
Welcome to the world of the got the t-shirt.
Talking of targets , sheltered housing centres need only 1 d2d for domino's on the notice board with all the others, not 1 per flat saving 120 leaflets!
Average frame 500 drops, average D2ds 4 per week. Average cost per D2d 6p Income = £120 less say 2 Hours overtime cost £30 (including Employers NI etc)
Profit to the company £90 less handling charges. Probably make £50 to £60 per frame per week. 50 weeks a year = £3000 per frame. Anyone know how many frames there would be throughout the UK? I would guess 80,000 = £240 million per year.

we were told if over 5 lots they should come "pre-prepped"
The actual agreement made no such promise:
The CWU will be involved in quarterly review meetings, which will provide an opportunity for
the CWU and Royal Mail to review operational challenges, product developments, and work
together to identify new products and further growth opportunities, including the potential
for automation which will be driven by commercial viability linked to volume.
Both parties also recognise that in addition to growth in the core D2D product further
commercial opportunities are likely to exist particularly for named/specific day(s) products
and/or Saturdays which may provide Royal Mail with additional scope for increased revenue.
In order to take advantage of any potential in this area any further commercial
opportunities will remain subject to ongoing dialogue, joint monitoring and review and will
also be discussed and agreed with the CWU nationally at the quarterly review meetings with
a view to capturing any viable opportunities for the mutual benefit of Royal Mail and its
employees and to also deal with any workload issues
The Union may have sold it on the basis of automation but the agreement, as can be seen had no such guarantee. Thats why its important to read the agreements before voting on them.
Apparently though they did have a trial somewhere and the results were not favourable towards further automation. I'll try and track something down on that tomorrow.

worth mentioning also that door to doors under the last agreement were re-clasified as "indoor work" and or "live mail". to help fill the time for the full timers inward sorting time. in our office no one goes home untill the next days door to doors are prepped on all walks. also we have been told previously that you could not claim over time because of excessive door to doors.
Postie45 wrote:quite simply, Monday and Tuesday are both days with double columns for D2D on my frame, its a heck of a lot of households to get prepped, this has the knock of effect of bags which usually can be carried now having to be put on a trolley which also takes longer.
Aren't you supposed to be using a trolley mandatory anyway and just cut off at your normal finish time if you have too many D2D's
Whats the problem??

I did read somewhere, in an LTB ,that when they were all bundled together,it was popular with delivery staff, but the customers wanted to pay less, probably because it made it easier for the recipient to bin the whole lot without looking at them. No more has been mentioned.
Clearly not been on the together for growth programme d2d bring in excess of £200 million and they want to grow this part of the business so you are speaking shite.

If they are not nested, as per spec, that is 7 items to filter (before we even talk about any letters for the next address) while stationary which will use more outdoor time.
Extra indoor and outdoor workload, more likely to create extra cut off and/or overtime.*
* Too many OPGs, at least at my depot, put all "pressure" overtime down as extended delivery. If your 318 states you should be leaving the depot at 1000, but you left at 1030, the first 30mins of any overtime claim should be against INDOOR WORK, not extended del! If you have 7 D2D one week taking up that extra indoor work time, state that on the overtime sheet.
So your say you have 7 d2d which are taking you 75 minutes a day..160 delivery points...so your delivery has 960 delivery points?

Our depot control sheets used to require us to do one column plus an extra box, Mon-Thurs, in their great wisdom this was changed to two columns on Tuesdays (which is 160 slots). Most walks have "double slots," so Tuesday could easily be 200 or more delivery points, but even on "single slot" frames this is a time eater indoors before you decide whether to deliver all regardless or only take where addresses have letters/parcels.
http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=55212" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; LTB announcing the trial. However despite wasting 30 minutes I can't find any LTB or documentation on the CWU site actually reporting on the trial
