Vehicle Log book

Hi, I am new to Parcelforce / Royal Mail and was told that I could fined £2000 for not taking a logbook out with me whilst delivering. The office could not find it

Is this true or another misinformed manager?

The Road Traffic Act states a company must know the identity of the driver and no doubt the use of the log book does that but seriously why would the driver be fined

I think its because its a legal document to show that you have checked the vehicle over and taken responsibility for it, in an accident investigation they will look through the log book for defect reported (or not reported), all the mileage accounted for, any discrepancies accounted for.

Of course it puts the blame on us...the driver is responsible for the condition of that vehicle,if it has defects don't use it,get another....simples.
I find that agency drivers are not shown how to fill in the books.
