Re: The election of the General Secretary
I give a rats arse. ive heard dave ward at meetings. impressive orator. seen billy hayes on the tele. not so impressive. of other national officers, pullinger looks and sounds the part. the enemy of democracy is a lack of interest in its workings. things may not be perfect in the royal mail workplace, but comparison with similar workplaces ,industry's, prove we are better off at the moment being a unionised industry. but the reality of the situation is the vast majority of members interests lie outside the workplace. its left to old tosser's like me to get involved. rightly or wrongly. and if things are perceived to be imperfect, so be it.

Politicians are in the main impressive orators, they say exactly what you want to hear, promise whatever your hearts desire, until elected. Then willy the weasel is nothing on these guys.

Re: The election of the General Secretary
there are enough agreements, procedures in place not to be bullied. sometimes we just have to have the ball's to stand up to out of control managers. dom's line managers do take a kicking from above. it's up to a unit to bring them to book if possible when they pass the crap down.

I do stand up to them but I work in one of the "Weak Offices" and get no backing from the union or my fellow memberssilly suffolk wrote:there are enough agreements, procedures in place not to be bullied. sometimes we just have to have the ball's to stand up to out of control managers. dom's line managers do take a kicking from above. it's up to a unit to bring them to book if possible when they pass the crap down.

Re: The election of the General Secretary
I feel your pain. I see these dly offices on my travels. totally over run by aggressive managers at one site, but 10 miles down the road a more relaxed working environment because of better union representation. unfortunately if you haven't got a good local rep, the area reps patch is just to big to be on site very often. all I can advise is try and win little battles now and again and gradually build on it. all the best.P13 wrote:I do stand up to them but I work in one of the "Weak Offices" and get no backing from the union or my fellow memberssilly suffolk wrote:there are enough agreements, procedures in place not to be bullied. sometimes we just have to have the ball's to stand up to out of control managers. dom's line managers do take a kicking from above. it's up to a unit to bring them to book if possible when they pass the crap down.

Re: The election of the General Secretary
It does not bother me too much, I work at a reasonable pace and do my job as it is meant to be done and i think it annoys the managers. Our local rep is now the Area Repsilly suffolk wrote:I feel your pain. Re: The election of the General Secretary
Dingo, what concerns me is why Billy is going to the ballott box so early? as mentioned in another thread he has another year or more to bank if he so desired, so is he being pushed, or is he bailing out to take up a role already made availiable to him thru the Political arena? also I also believe like others on here that the turnout will be so low because like you mentioned it will be the Area Reps and above who will be the only one's bothered to vote, when DW becomes GS who do YOU believe has the acumen to stand as DGS???

Re: The election of the General Secretary
And you have a previous staunch ally and defender of Billy the Bulge now saying he's been occupying a sinecure for the last 14 years precluding any chance of DW not being a shoo in. It would appear something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Looking at it realistically if DW as DGS has been doing all the work lets just call him the GS and forget about a DGS. If they need a DGS I don't think it will be anyone we know.Glenno wrote:Dingo, what concerns me is why Billy is going to the ballott box so early? as mentioned in another thread he has another year or more to bank if he so desired, so is he being pushed, or is he bailing out to take up a role already made availiable to him thru the Political arena? also I also believe like others on here that the turnout will be so low because like you mentioned it will be the Area Reps and above who will be the only one's bothered to vote, when DW becomes GS who do YOU believe has the acumen to stand as DGS???![]()
It could be of course that Billy has been offered a position with a national bakery chain

Yes. Has someone already selected for a safe Labour seat somewhere bailed out?

Re: The election of the General Secretary
If anyone knows a senior rep who is supporting Billy Hayes please advise them if they wish they can also post on here. The one thing that is not good for democracy is getting only one side of a debate.

Re: The election of the General Secretary
As an outsider looking in I'll be very interested as to what the ballot %age will be. I do believe in the interests of fairness there should be a minimum as to what is an acceptable level of returned ballot papers to the numbers eligible to vote. Not just for this election but for all elections. I also believe that there should be a mandate that everyone eligible to vote must vote with a penalty for not doing so.
If there's less than a 50% take up it will give people some idea as to how popular trade unionism is at the highest level.
