Re: RM is failing to keep up with its smarter competitors
chrisj,WCM has to be seen to be believed, when it hit our DO our canteen was taken over,2 WCM leaders spent 3 days painting it with lines going from corner to corner and up and down, they then spent another 2 weeks drawing train lines around the walls with little stations to represent the 7 pillars, more time was wasted finding enough people to fill these 7 posts, these people were taken off delivery and spent approx 3 weeks putting stickers up and pictures of dogs, collecting old worn out shoes and making displays out of them, they then brought a shop dummy to show us how to wear the uniform,if there was any slip's trips or falls the site where it happened was visited and photographed and turned into a wall display, the poor OPG who had the accident had to do a question and answer session with the head of the safety pillar, this took about 30 mins which was booked as O/T,do you get the gist of what WCM is now.I could go on with further examples but I'm afraid my bullshit filter has blocked most of it.

Re: RM is failing to keep up with its smarter competitors
I have seen examples of WCM work in an MDEC office - yes, it appears to be a lot of teaching a granny to suck eggs; and posters, wacky ideas, crayon work, walls covered and so on but some of the ideas are good or good enough.
However, like most organisations, RM has to have a way of trying to make things better: certainly not all the ideas will be complete rubbish - sharing what works and what can make things better is not always a bad things.
Innovation and Inventions starts with a lot of failures - rarely do things happen with a 'light bulb moment' the very first time. Just imagine working in some other organisations like call centres, banks, some factories, government agencies - you will see lots of examples of these things - 'The Office - David Brent' programme is not that far off from what happens in some places.
Do not underestimate the ability of some of us to do stupid things even walking on the right side of the block, not overloading yorks or boxes, bad lifting, poor security of mail, driving without seatbelts, sticking fingers in letter boxes (dog peg - okish; not the worst idea in the world if you know there is a dangerous dog).
What is wrong with showing where an accident happened and how to prevent it? We do not always know what happens to others especially in a large office.
Like I said, we do not have WCM; and most delivery offices do not have them. So to say that it is a major waste of money from RM is pushing the boat. At the end of the day, only a few people are actively even within an office is involved.
Anyway, enough of this. RM and posties rules OK!

Re: RM is failing to keep up with its smarter competitors
Individually or even as a collective group OPGs are already doing better than the majority of the competition according to recent customer service surveys and so there are positives. If one organisation is charging £10 Per/Man/Hr for it's services and another £6.50p Per/Man/Hr then the former needs to provide something special otherwise there is no point in paying the additional £3.50p Per/Man/Hr as far as the customer is concerned. Super Saver Free Delivery is not going to go away as it's one of the main ways that eCommerce competes with retail parks and the high street. AS an organisation RM needs to prioritise customer service and develop services that the customer wants .... services that the customer is willing to pay £10 Per/Man/Hr for. The investment in WCM has been £millions and while there are positives much of this money has been wasted, too many people trying to invent the wheel at the same time and not enough focus on making the WCM process efficient itself.chrisj wrote:Anyway, how can we OPG do better in actual terms of delivery to customers; especially Parcels?
If you want to take a look at how to improve parcel delivery glance over at DPD.
