Apologies if I am stating the obvious but there are many different degrees when it comes to Flexible Working and it all depends on what is being proposed.

P318s are not definitive documents in the sense that most will have a qualifying note saying something like "Or As Directed By You Line Manager" which ensures that there exists some degree of flexibility so in fact flexibility is already a part of many peoples working day.

Spot on budfrog 318s don't exist its AS DIRECTED
and that means just that ,if they tell you to do somthing
you do it they can pull you of your duty and put you on anyone elses
they want and there is nothing you can do.
obviously it makes sense to keep you on a del you know
and can prep faster
but you can't even call your duty your own if they tell you to do
someone elses AS DIRECTED
No one has their own duty anymore
that's what we're told :arrrghhh

rsn200 wrote:On reflection, I also have concerns if this is to be the agreement re flexibility! my delivery office had problems for ages keeping a rep in place, as I’m sure is the case with other offices; the reps were harassed and bullied out of there positions through not being given an opportunity to perform a balance of union work and there delivery duty. We now have a rep who has led us excellently through this dispute but, he regularly has to visit other offices without reps to deal with things, what is the likely out come in offices with no daily union involvement? management freedom to do as is pleased from moment to moment, I for one do not trust my management to stick to any flexibility agreement, already we perform irregular sorting patterns where we one day we get 15 min's ect off the primary sorting to prep our delivery’s, then the next day we don’t get any time, depending on the mail traffic, a style of working which has never be agreed or negotiated in our office. flexibility however they dress it up is the licence to have you boxing up a walk, then go on some random sorting be it rural or bulk business, then back to your primary with barely enough time to get all done so some guy back at his frame can tie up cos he started before his time and has sorting exception. Wait till you see the inconsistencies!!! And with no rep to defend the agreement, who is going to stick there neck out and face the victimisation?
I don't understand your concerns,my friend..........I couldn't give a monkeys what my dim wants me to do. Sorting ,prepping etc etc at the end of the day i have my round to do and if i can't finnish it because he made me do something else I BRING IT BACK...funny he never asks me to do anything but my duty. :Very Happy  :Very Happy

For me its not about the flexible working as we already work to a flexible working 318 with the as directed part shoved in for good measure. What I will NOT be accepting is the flexible attendances and banked annualized hours.

that's just it you don't have your round to do if they want
you spend all day preping walks for part timers to take out
that is what you will do and if that dosn't bother you fair enough
but it will sure piss me off

BUT if you make a pigs ear of what they want you to do they don't seem to ask you again, it's down to people standing up for yourselves. In my office we who shout loadest don't get asked, the dims pick on the guys who don't say anything and who just do as they are told. It's not really fair on these guys but no matter what you advise them to do they don't want to upset the apple cart, they don't listen so they just have to get on wth it.....

And that really is the crux of the matter! Once flexible working - and do I need to remind anyone the flexible start times which can be re-arranged by +/- 2 hours with prior arrangement - then the next step is annualised hours monthly pay and any other little changes that are needed in the cause of "modernisation".

The pros on here should wake up and smell the coffee.

The wording of the strike document - yeh my arse - this smells as fishy as Grimsby harbour. I haven't seen any "leaks" that I thought was a concession. Dave Ward walked out of that building last night looking as though he'd lost his wallet.

I hope I'm proved wrong but this has a "wrong" feeling.

Hang on guys..............before we start bashing our union [AGAIN] LETS AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL WE KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE COME UP WITH. I agree i cant see how things can have changed so much in less than a week but i will at least wait to see what is on the table. At the end of the day if we don't like it we will just vote it out..WONT WE ? :pray :pray :pray

Yes, wait and see.

We're not the only Union in the public service sector to be in dispute. If need be, joint action might be organised.

But let's hope for the best until Monday.

If the deal's not acceptable we'll deal with it then.

WRONG

the screws will have complete control of your working hours under this new system, this means if they think tuesdays are light in your office they'll get you to start 30 mins later, still expect you to finish and bank the saved hours for a busier period . . . . . . . also, if you think 6.00am starts are a pain, under this new system they have the right to alter your times by up to 2 hours either end of the duty, so what's to stop them making it a 7.00am or even 8.00am start if they wanna . . . . . all we want, is to know what our hours are on a regular basis, is that so much to ask ?

2 hours may have been scrapped, otherwise a big no vote will be the outcome when deal is put to us.

Billypants-Nail-Head...they can move your duty time as they see fit,so if they dump half a round on you and you say "i'm going over my time" they can adjust your time accordingly and bank the hours you have worked over..then when it's light..Next tuesday or next summer..they will watch you go home early and consider it "even".2 questions though..if you leave the company and you OWE them hours will this be taken from any severance pay AND if they OWE you hours will you be paid extra?? who controls the "bank" in which these hours are kept? if you have a discrepancy in your hours which they don't agree with is it your word against doms?? Is every single postman in the country expected to keep a detailed log of hours over/under his annual allocation. This sounds like a good way for Doms and especially SOMs to get us working extra for free...this annualised hours thing sounded bad from the offset and it sounds Worse everyting time i hear it....Oh and don't think you can slow down and take your time to push up your hours bank...what on earth do you think Vehicle telemetry and tracking is for??? Mrs Bloggs comes out for her daily chat with postie....The clock is ticking...stop for meal relief..the clock is ticking..you get the picture..mark my words people...Flexibility working is going to leave us incredibly vunerable. lotta love.
if you aint payin..the mails stayin!!!
