But behind our team of drivers, sorters and postal delivery workers, there’s a group of decision-makers and motivators who lead our teams, maintain our 41,000-strong fleet of vehicles and ensure we have the technology we need to deliver for our customers. That’s where you could come in.
About the programme
From day one of this 18-month programme, you’ll be joining one of our Mail Centres or Delivery Offices as a Line manager, Delivery Office Manager, Collections Manager or Work Area Manager. Leading an experienced team of up to 40, you’ll learn about everything from scheduling daily rotas, to implementing business strategies designed to deliver transformation.
The whole programme is designed to nurture your leadership potential. That’s why you’ll also be responsible for motivating your team. Then if your skills and confidence develop quickly, after three months you could even take responsibility for a whole operational unit and help us ‘deliver Christmas’.
Because we operate nationally, our Operations graduates are expected to relocate throughout the programme. That means your first placement could be at Birmingham Mail Centre and your second might be in Preston. So, naturally, you’ll need the right to work full time in the UK for the duration of the programme.
What we’re looking for
Operations is fast-paced, varied and challenging. Whether you’re working an early morning shift or even through the night, the decisions you make could have an effect on the quality of our service. You must have a strong sense of self-belief, be ready to get stuck in and have the confidence to handle any problem that comes your way.
As a graduate you’ll play a dual role. On one hand, you’ll need to be a people person and thrive as part of a team. On the other hand, you’ll need a genuine desire to lead. The programme will help you learn how to inspire individuals and how to utilise your strong leadership skills. Many of the people you’re managing will have lots of experience and they’ll expect you to prove yourself.
But if you’ve got the drive, passion and single-mindedness to deliver in Operations, there’s no limit to the impact you could have on your team and the future of Royal Mail.
