‘Mail companies are failing to deliver first-class service,’ says Clerkenwell councillor

LETTERS and bills have taken weeks to arrive in a postal service that was lambasted by a councillor.
Clerkenwell councillor Raphael Andrews first noticed the delays nearly a year ago and has complained repeatedly to Royal Mail and independent deliveries company Whistl, both of which have been responsible for late packages.
In one instance, a letter sent from only a couple of miles away took two weeks to arrive.
A few months after he had made initial complaints, Cllr Andrews started to hear from some of his constituents who were experiencing the same problems.
One woman had bills delivered so late she was being charged for late payment.
Cllr Andrews says he has received no replies to complaints until this week. “All I’m getting is this wall of silence,” he said. “We’re paying for a first-class service and being treated as second class.”
He added: “They’ve been providing a very poor service for a considerable period of time and that’s not acceptable.”
Royal Mail told the Tribune that they were aware of the councillor’s most recent complaint, but they had no record of complaints in the run-up to Christmas, usually the busiest time of the year.
A spokeswoman said: “There is no indication at this stage that there are any problems in this area. We would need more specific information about specific items in order to investigate. Of course, if there is a problem we would investigate and take appropriate action.”
They encouraged anyone who had experienced problems to contact them.
Cllr Andrews called Royal Mail’s response “appalling”.
Cllr Andrews said that Whistl, who operate independently of Royal Mail, had not responded to any of his complaints either, some of which were made as long ago as last June.
Whistl said they had no record of any complaints. A spokesman said: “We have not been advised of complaints either by residents or the local councillor. The company will of course investigate any issues raised.”
Cllr Andrews now says he will be collecting evidence from his constituents to present to Royal Mail and Whistl.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I'm assuming that they're referring to DSA mail that's delivered by Royal Mail, because somehow I doubt it would be "regular" mail delivered by us and anyway there would/should be failures recorded in the relevant DO's covering any delivery that hasn't gone out and that can be checked to confirm or deny this.

No firm evidence who has delivered said items or who has processed them either. But let's blame Royal Mail by default anyway.

It's the media "Get out of Jail Free" card. They think it absolves them of any blame and can then say what they like.deltaforce wrote:No firm evidence who has delivered said items or who has processed them either. But let's blame Royal Mail by default anyway.
