Self-Employed Owner Driver (Courier)

Job description

Due to on-going growth within the business Royal Mail Courier Services, a division of the Royal Mail Group, URGENTLY require self-employed owner van drivers to join our successful fleet of drivers to do nationwide ad hoc work.

To join us you must:

· Own/lease a full panel van within 8 years old that can hold a minimum of 1 standard 121cm (48”) x 101cm (40”) pallet – CARS CANNOT BE USED
· Have Vehicle Insurance covering you for “the carriage of goods for hire and reward”
· Have Goods in Transit Insurance for £20,000
· Have Public Liability Insurance for £2 million
· Have a Full Driving Licence, valid for driving in the UK. (maximum of 6 points)
· Be able to pass a CRB check
· Have the right to work in the UK
· Have a good geographical knowledge of the UK
· Have a good command of the English language, both spoken and written

In return we can offer:

Please note this is not a full-time employed position, you will be completing work for Royal Mail Courier Services on a subcontract basis, doing ad hoc work which would therefore be in addition to any other courier/sameday work you are currently doing.

Surely "in addition to any other courier/sameday work you are currently doing" would be a conflict of interest.

subcontract basis doing ad hoc would that conflict of interest really matter ?

Yes, zero hours contracts with those and other companies too, a couple of hours a week with each and you're still part time.

Probably, but it's still mail so surely mail integrity, RM's criminal record checks etc. should still apply.

Out of curiosity, if you have to provide your own van/insurance, why do they care how many penalty points you may have?

They use it as a Risk Assessment of your style of driving/delivering. The more points you have the more chances you took and will probably take.
