Police are hunting a woman who tried to rob a post office.

The crook, who was described as ‘scruffy-looking’ and aged between 30 and 40, targeted the branch on Walthew Lane in Platt Bridge, Wigan.

She walked into the outlet at about midday on Saturday and demanded cash from the tills.

The victims behind the counter, aged 18 and 50, were told not to raise the alarm but they ignored her and used the panic button.

The offender then ran off empty-handed. She was described as white, ‘scruffy-looking’, aged between 30 and 40, around 5ft 8in tall with a heavy build.

She was wearing a black jacket with the hood up and had dark bags under her eyes.

Det Con Lee Jamieson said: “The victims were left shaken but unhurt by this woman, who was apparently unarmed and seemingly unprepared to use force to achieve her aims.

"But that should take nothing away from the seriousness of this crime.

"The offender was standing outside the Post Office for some time, so I am hopeful that someone may have seen and recognised her.

"I would ask anyone who saw her to contact police.”
