Well I forecast another three cosy meetings with expenses paid for the CWU and RM hierarchy before you're told there is no significant increase in delivery time. As for dingos' update, there we go with yet another apologist tirade on how well served the members are with the current union organisation. It beats me how people who are largely intelligent could swallow crap in ever increasing doses from people who have never worked in delivery in the last 20 years, make no bones about it delivery staff have taken the brunt of the changes. All the CWU hierarchy want is to be sat at the table with an expense account and a nice salary surrounded by sycophants who swallow their every word and hand it down to the lesser mortals so they work harder and harder.

During this revision process we will have everything to hand, tools, training and national agreements to ensure we get a revision done that benefits our members. The only problem I see is the majority unit reps won't insist on everything being done as it should and before you know it they will slip into doing what ever is easiest.

A good revision can be had if the rep is fully prepared to see everything through and refuse to sign off any phase unless 100% happy.

maybe so but the problem is members don't no anything about these new tools and agreements so the doms just do what suits them and get away with it. like I said in an earlier post we lose 3 dutys this week and these are to be added on to other dutys in the office , so who has agreed this ?

Have you a unit rep?

If not, speak with area rep. You need an explanation as to why this has been done. If your local rep isn't representing the majority then get the majority to say so. The worst thing you can do is let off steam on here and because of which and then just sit back. Do something about it. Preferably collectively.

Just to add, if you have no rep I would imagine your DOM is doing this without agreement. Flag it up immediately, if no joy with area, get hold of branch secretary.

How many times do you see management now going direct to staff to get a new duty, change of hours, extra lapsing without any union involvement whatsoever. It's so easy for them with so many part timers who are only too happy to go along with changes without any recourse to the Rep because they aren't in the union and see no reason to join. They are looking after themselves in the hope that they may be given extra hours on their contract which the union doesn't seem able to secure. What can the rep or members do to combat this, nothing because they have no sway with non members.

Then why are TNT, Whistl or whatever they are called ,so,desperate to get involved in letter delivery? It does not make sense ,especially if the industry is supposed to be dying. Although, I suspect it is grossly exaggerated for certain people's agendas.
The union are complacent and just go along with anything proposed, I am not suggesting they oppose for opposings sake , but I pay my subs and I want them to represent my interests ,not cosy up to RM management. We ,on the shop floor , see morale disintegrating rapidly, workloads getting harder and heavier and bullying and harassment is rife ,yet what are the union doing? At the moment ,I feel, they are not doing an awful lot .
Union doing nothing totally agree with above comment , but what's new !

If we were all doing the outdoor job correctly, less letters per delivery point does affect outdoor delivery span!

I stand still while filtering my bundle to get the mail ready for my next delivery point, because filtering on the move is dangerous (and it artificially reduces outdoor time). More letters per address, more time stationary, simples!

Sadly, I don't know of another OPG in my depot that filters correctly.

The union can secure better contracts for part timers who are doing a regular increase of hours month in, month out. The problem may well sit with the local rep who isn't pushing hard enough or maybe they are but they are let down by the area rep or beyond at divisional level.

The point to note is this should start at local level and if it isn't then the local rep should be questioned why it isn't.

I can only assume you've no rep in your unit.

I would go back to your area rep preferably by email and copy in your branch secretary, divisional reps and branch chair. Explain in full your concern and insist that they now act.

If you get no reply, you email again and again. Do not allow them to use ignorance to their advantage.

Sorry. Can't agree with that. We had a rep who refused to sign anything off. Revision was a joke but when push came to shove we had union high-ups down and they sold us down the river. Nobody high up seems prepared to do anything to disturb the cozy relationship :evil/mad
