Bit puzzled by the OP, what bloody idiot would leave, or indeed accept a parcel from a different street? it doesn`t make sense to me. pinch of salt comes to mind

Re: Deliver To Neighbour - Worth The Aggro
Managers in our offices are hammering DTN, we are constantly confronted with them waiting for us when we get back from delivery.windermeredave wrote:Bit puzzled by the OP, what bloody idiot would leave, or indeed accept a parcel from a different street? it doesn`t make sense to me. pinch of salt comes to mind
The line of questioning when we bring a tracked back is
'did you try neighbours?'
'did you try everyone in the street?'
'did you try the street around the corner?'
Ill try neighbours if time permits but have never gone any further than 2/3 doors down. When I get back I give a 'yes' to all the questions from the manager.
There are posties, either too eager or too scared, who will do whatever it takes to deliver all tracked items.
There probably are people nice enough to accept parcels for whoever, doesnt mean people waiting for the parcels will be happy about it.

Re: Deliver To Neighbour - Worth The Aggro
I've had a few neighbours Refuse to take a parcel for next door. I'm often tempted to write REFUSED BY NEIGHBOUR on the 739 but I thought, "Don't really want to cause any more trouble between them"!
Instead I just write NO ANSWER on the appropriate line........ Still finding it hard to believe what our Manager said, when he told us Parcels take no longer to deliver than letters!

Re: Deliver To Neighbour - Worth The Aggro
It can be annoying as some people have 8 parcels a week and 3 of them won't fit in letter box. So it can be annoying for next door neighbour. If it one parcel say every 3 weeks it won't be too bad. People need to learn they can get their parcel delivered to work place.

Long term the solution is going to have to be some sort of "collection point" shop where people can goto to collect ones that don't fit through the letter box or those that need a signature

Re: Deliver To Neighbour - Worth The Aggro
In our d.o. out of over 100 deliveries on an average day there are at least 150 returned tracked parcels that have been 739'd so your not on your own bringing them back. The parcel is safe, the customer had the tough luck and the neighbours are all happy , the only damage done is to your lazy manager's bonus - what a shame!
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

In our DO, we have been told (a rare bit of good news) that our performance on D2N is really good.
I don't know how they can know this though? They can see how much is returned, and if its not much, but how are they to know what is delivered to neighbour and how many are actually in themselves?

They are looking at how much is brought back, they have no idea who is in and what it DTN, it is first time delivery rates they are looking at.lala wrote:In our DO, we have been told (a rare bit of good news) that our performance on D2N is really good.

They only count the Tracked packets coming back, that's why they can say that.lala wrote:In our DO, we have been told (a rare bit of good news) that our performance on D2N is really good.

This! Although somewhat idealistically dreaming, I've always envisioned a sort of large scale, secure vending machine type set up, at least Post Office sized though. Just get your parcels delivered there if it's preferable for you and pick 'em up any time 24/7 by punching in your address pin number. That'd cut plenty jobs in a few areas.SpacePhoenix wrote:Long term the solution is going to have to be some sort of "collection point" shop where people can goto to collect ones that don't fit through the letter box or those that need a signature
Also, whilst I'm dreaming - hopefully by that point in the future someone will have developed a new means of transferring text and image information by some sort of electronic, global wireless networking system and there'll be no need for incredibly wasteful and archaic mediums like ink and paper. Can you imagine how much more convenient and efficient that'd be?

That is not as batty as it may sound. It could take tracked, recorded and other items say up to shoe box size. For pity's sake don't 'e-mail Moira' with this one, or there'll be 100% P/T postmen and a parcel Tardis in every local shop or PO front......dtyssmshdchrb wrote:This!
