Your last comment is perhaps based on the notion that a lot of people are ghosting - I doubt that very much! And it does not take account of those that actually work more hours than they are paid - and that is the other side of those often FT/long term staff having easier rounds.

A lot of part time staff come in before their time and end not claiming OT even when they go over the normal contractual time.

There are a few variables that makes allocating work to match exact hours very difficult in delivery. The best and also worst case scenario will be to make the work so big that it is almost impossible to finish on time and to continually revise and reallocate duties.

Yes, the status quo is the easy option for most people including RM but things are changing and like I said the opportunities to ghost and benefits is forever reducing.

Are people really ever going to stop doing overtime or are they all going to start coming in on their time and doing the job properly and are we going to get really equitable duties or have our Union supporting all the members equally and encouraging employment of more staff? Yes, I did not think so.

No. What they will do is introduce performance standards.
You have x amount of mail.
It will take you x amount of indoor hours to prepare it.
It will take you x amount of time to deliver.

And if you can't do it you will be out of a job.
To have any sort of ballpark figure for "it will take you x amount of time to deliver" RM need to get their finger out and have accurate data for stuff like...
What is a reasonable time to push a weighty HCT to the start of delivery?
What is a reasonable rate to filter each item of mail for the next address, while standing stationary outside the previous delivery point?
What is the accurate distance for each delivery point off the road's pavement?
How many gates and porch doors (without a letterbox) need to be opened to reach the secure delivery point?
What size is every letterbox in the country, is that Lovefilm DVD going to easily fit through Fred's ridiculous Victorian vertical letterbox?
Statistically, how likely is Fred Jones going to be in for their attendance call item?
How many DTN neighbours need to be attempted per attendance call at ~1min per attempt, when Fred is not in?
How many replishment bags does walk 23 have; how far does the OPG have to safely carry them to their HCT (proably needing multiple trips); how long should that many bundles and parcels take to place in a logical order in the HCT?
What is a reasonable time to push the HCT back to the depot, having typically been out on delivery for 4.5 hours or more?

The "planners" have no bloody clue about time consuming issues including the above, its guesswork that eats into our contract time and creates unachievable workloads, when most of it should be facts.

Bang on. Already said it. If they want to give us X amount of time, that's fair enough, but there's no point planning it round the work methods of an early starting runner.

All " factors " should have been accorded for. That is what the A-Plus champion is there for. All relevant information should have been relayed to this person prior to the revision. I'm not saying it's right, but that is fact.
Apart from DTN which I read in the courier is now factored in due to the drop in traffic.( Not a joke ). November issue I think.

Trolley / Lackey, answer this question. Do any staff in your offices make several hours a day ?
If the answer is yes then management are not adhering to the agenda for growth. FULLY UTILISE ALL PAID HOURS. They should be doing the work that others can't. If o/t is being paid to cover this work and other staff finish are finishing early then make Moya Greene aware (justsayit.co.uk). I'm sure she will not be able to ignore several staff in every single delivery office in the UK.
If the answer is no then all staff must either have the correct workload or be failing on a daily basis.

You only have to work your contracted hours each day. The more you fail the more the runners will have to do (or o/t paid out). Eventually they will realise that half killing yourself when it's 100 degrees outside to make 1/2 an hour is not worth it. There will also come a time when DOM's will be fully accountable for all o/t paid.

One other question.

Does anyone on here know of a delivery office where all staff finish at the same time ? I don't necessarily mean everyone leaving at their contracted finish times but more a clear office policy.

All deads and redirections done, clear IPS frame, no cut offs, packets booked in etc.

I'd love to know the offices.

Nobody can leave the office before a certain time at ours, usually around 9.15-9.30 from a 6.45 start. You can't just grab your specials and go as the cards aren't put out until everything is cleared, so going in early is pointless - people still do it though.

Finish times vary wildly though, especially on Saturdays when some drivers on commercials make as much as 4 hours while us on residentials are lucky to make 20-30 minutes.

Let's not!

In my experience it's such an unfair and unjust system and causes animosity in the working environment.

Managers are dictating and enhancing peoples income to unacceptable levels, some of these 'Ghosters' earn more than the Linos. Managers are allocating this 'made up' overtime to friends, family and ass-wipes, whilst the hard workers or OPGs with impossible walks are never offered deals. It's hard to watch someone being paid for a '16' hour day when you're struggling your tits off to try to complete an 8 hour day...............
Well said Twincamms! :Applause I try not to get too involved with "Whose doing what...What time did he finish". However over Christmas I was trying to comprehend how several of the guys were being paid 2 hours for early IPS, and still finishing before their allocated time. I know why..... they were prepping their own duties, after doing the first few yorks of IPS, but it surprised me that they got away with it. Mind you the DOM wasn't turning up until after 0700. "While the Cats away...." :no no Think they should have been told to do IPS, and prep any other Duties that need it, for their extra SA. :hmmmm

So not then. Just for the record, 1 duty finished at 09.15am on a Saturday, 06.00am start. I start at 06.45am as well as an indoor colleague (forced upon us after a dispute with the DOM, union done sweet FA) and we finished at 14.18. OVER 5 HOURS LATER. Live mail left in IPS frames, residential not just firms, and on RM2000 frames.

How can any of this be right ?

in our office the part timers are told to book in what they work, yet during the summer the full timers who came in two hours early as part of an early team to facilitate lapsing were leaving two hours early and booking in for it still. manager says nothing, yet tells part timers to book what they work. ppl like this should eb ahsmed, milllions could be saved if doms did their job properly`.

I'm unaware of anyone making several hours a day. I've had people pass me while I've got a hour to 90 mins left. And now and again we have a freakishly light day and I might hear of someone breaking the magical 12 noon barrier; but nothing on the scale you're talking. That is why I can't get my head round posts talking of 9.30 finishes, in this day and age.

3pm finishes in my office, Saturdays included. We don't get released early, even if there"s no work to do. We sit at our frames waiting for a nod from the Gestapo. :arrrghhh

If everyone spent more time doing their own job rather than watching what others are doing and moaning about perceived advantages then everyone would get finished one hell of a lot earlier.

It's Human nature Poster. But it's difficult to ignore people walking past you with their Prepped Duty in a York and you're still throwing off. You tend to think WTF?

I know we can't live in the past, but I used to like the old IPS system where EVERYONE used to be throwing off all the mail until it was finished. Mind you we still used to have the slackers who sneaked off to the toilet or went and hid somewhere for a sly fag! Like I say it's just Human Nature, some people will get away with what you let them get away with! :cuppa

Really? I take it you're a 'Ghoster' then?
:arrrghhh Some people spend 10 - 15 minutes a day stood at their fitting doing bugger all apart from moaning and people watching. Another 10 minutes checking every van control and signing sheet just to see who finished before them. There is never any mention of the peeps who finished after them and they can't comprehend that the 20 minutes a day they spend in the practice is what makes them late.

The most senior men have the first pick of the rounds but then complain someone else as an easier round than they do because they are been beaten back :so there
