Re: Citilink
I'm not surprised RM didn't want to save Citilink, they haven't anything we haven't got, people, vans and depots - customers could well come on board and I wouldn't be surprised if RM haven't already tapped them up. I would have thought Parcelforce would have been a better option.

Can't see anyone sending stuff back, most of it is under a tenner with free postage. Must cost us about that to send it back, just not worth bothering.krussel wrote:toomuchcoke wrote:Doesn't stuff like that basically result in the Royal Mail & China Post adding up the total amount of stuff they shipped to each other, with the one who shipped more paying x amount per tonne for the extra?aposter wrote:Doubt we actually get paid anything for chinese parcels given that many of the items cost less (with free postage) than the postage within the UK would cost let alone travel from China.
I ve often wondered if we get anything.
The only things we send back to China is the stuff which does not work or is really crap.

Re: Citilink
as far as I am aware Ebay parcels being sent to argos for collection invariably go through our network to be delivered to the particular argos store... it is just more convenient for the customer to collect from there instead of being 'red carded' by us as they are out at work... so no loss of revenue there... in fact is more cost efficient for us also...Darren Bent wrote:......
... But there are declines ie Ebay parcels going to Argos call and collect instead.

Anybody who's been in a queue at Argos would find it better to queue at the Callers office

Re: Citilink
good point... did I read somewhere we are going to be trialling our own direct 'call an collect' service missing out attempted delivery at home??dvbuk55 wrote:thegreatestfreddy wrote:as far as I am aware Ebay parcels being sent to argos for collection invariably go through our network to be delivered to the particular argos store... it is just more convenient for the customer to collect from there instead of being 'red carded' by us as they are out at work... so no loss of revenue there... in fact is more cost efficient for us also...Darren Bent wrote:......

It's already happening for Amazon, labelled "Local Collect" and delivered by RM to Post Offices I believe.thegreatestfreddy wrote:good point... did I read somewhere we are going to be trialling our own direct 'call an collect' service missing out attempted delivery at home??dvbuk55 wrote:thegreatestfreddy wrote:as far as I am aware Ebay parcels being sent to argos for collection invariably go through our network to be delivered to the particular argos store... it is just more convenient for the customer to collect from there instead of being 'red carded' by us as they are out at work... so no loss of revenue there... in fact is more cost efficient for us also...Darren Bent wrote:......

Re: Citilink
I always thought it odd we didn't utilise the local post offices to leave parcels it would be much more convenient for customers in rural areas. Parcelforce are now leaving parcels at our main post office and people are turning up at the callers office instead of the GPO in townLounge Lizard wrote:It's already happening for Amazon, labelled "Local Collect" and delivered by RM to Post Offices I believe.

Re: Citilink
the whole thing is getting messy for the customer... 'dark stores' popping up in numerous formats for customers wanting to collect their items... good selection of options but not fully understood.. obviously...dvbuk55 wrote:I always thought it odd we didn't utilise the local post offices to leave parcels it would be much more convenient for customers in rural areas. Re: Citilink
The Post Office option is very limited - they simply do not have the space to hold too many items and they still have customers to cater for.
If you compared a Click and Collect through Argos or Laura Ashley to name a couple then you can see that these folks have much bigger capacity than any PO and even most DOs; and it does not affect their daily work that much - they just fetch things from the warehouse like they do normally...
City Link probably joined the game of sub-contracting and/or using private drives (if at all) too late and they had other problems that was not just about delivering items.
Why would RM be talking to them about their customers; they simply try to attract the customers in their own right and not start to stoop to the levels of the likes of Yodel or DPD. The price of delivery is getting silly but RM needs to hold their nerve - there will be more folks dropping out of the Parcel delivery industry...

It wouldn't surprise me to see RM eventually open up "collection point" shops in high streets where people could collect their mail fromchrisj wrote:The Post Office option is very limited - they simply do not have the space to hold too many items and they still have customers to cater for.

Re: Citilink
I ve been thinking this as well. A locker system with coded doors would be a good option, same as Amazon. However just for P739's otherwise it will cost us jobs.SpacePhoenix wrote:It wouldn't surprise me to see RM eventually open up "collection point" shops in high streets where people could collect their mail fromchrisj wrote:The Post Office option is very limited - they simply do not have the space to hold too many items and they still have customers to cater for.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Thats true if you dislike Maternity rights, want hunting legalised, and think that Unions are more trouble than they are worth.PHARRY wrote:Bernardson wrote:Chairman is a UKIP donor.
